Super Saturday is the day most of the world are sitting at home, extremely chilled an looking to make their next profits by diving through the world of football. I have short listed a few picks that could hopefully be that answer.
Atletico Madrid travel away to Valencia in some spectacular form with zero losses in this season but salvaged 3 draw in between that period. Confidence is going to be sky high with the team after they came out 1-0 winners against Bayern Munich in their last Champions League outing in mid-week. Simeone has made this side into a difficult one to crack while able to counter attack and find goals at will. He has relied on the offensive firepower of Gameiro, Greizmann, Torres and Gaitan to help them up front this season providing assists and scoring goals, and the odd goal has generally been enough for them to take victory. Defensively, they are one of the best teams in the league conceding just 2 goals in the league and none in the Champions League so far.
Valencia have been in turmoil, sacking another manager and starting their rebuilding process once again. They have appointed new manager Ceseare Prandelli this week, who was the former Italian manager, and he has his work cut out for him with a poor defensive unit in Valencia who have now conceded goals in 10 straight games now dating backing to April last season. Taking on Atletico Madrid is a another kettle of fish who won both of their matches last season, especially when Madrid playing even better than they were last year.
Madrid look extremely strong this season and with a defence that has been rock solid this campaign, I find it difficult to see how a shaky Valencia outfit will score agains them, so I am backing Atletico Madrid to win this game.
Juventus have been in strong form to kick off the Italian Serie A season with 5 wins out of 6 to begin the campaign. Their defence is still getting used to the new defensive midfielders in front of them as Allegri is still busy finding out his best combination yet. Juventus have relied a lot on the Argentinian of Higuain and Dybala to start up front and deliver the goals, which so far they have done including in mid-week against minnows Dinamo Zagreb. Juventus will be looking to build on their lead which was brought down due to the defeat with Inter Milan and with their attacking unit in form, we can expect ta few goals going past Empoli tonight.
Empoli have been struggling so far this campaign, sitting in 19th spot with just 1 win and 1 draw from 6 games played so far. They have lost to average teams like Sampdoria and Udinese as well as better teams like Inter and Lazio; which showcases the struggles that they are facing this season to get victories. Enter the Champions coming to town, who have beaten them now in 4 out of their last 4 matches. Empoli have generally struggled to find the back of the net with just 2 goals in their last 6 games, and scored only 1 goal over the last 2 seasons against the Turin team.
Juventus look extremely good beating Empoli by a 2 goal margin in 3 out of the 4 games played over the last 2 years, and I expect much of the same form especially with Empoli struggling to find the back of the net this season.
Tottenham and Manchester City clash in the game of the unbeaten sides who are looking to push on for a victory to have the edge over their opponents over the long season. Tottenham come into this game with some major issues behind them as injuries to Dembele, Rose, Dier and Kane will mean that they have a lot of their starting XI missing from this game. Tottenham have relied on Son Heung-Min to deliver the goods for them, finding the back of the net in 3 straight games to lead this team in this comfortable position and there will be added pressure on him on this encounter. Tottenham on the defensive end have been extremely good this season leaking just 4 goals in 10 games so far this campaign. When they faced their challenge against a good Everton, Liverpool and Monaco team, they conceded goal and had to come from behind then to try and get a result.
Manchester City have been a goal scoring machine since they have been under Pep Guardiola, with just one dead rubber Champions League qualifying game going under 2.5 goals. With the return of Aguero from suspension and the playing form of Sterling will look to continue delivering goals much as they have for the past few games. Manchester City will be missing Kompany, De Bruyne and Nolito who would be 3 of their guaranteed starters in the team. City will have to rely on Gundogan, Navas and Otamendi filling in the gaps for them. This City side can be vulnerable to scoring goals with the sweeper keeper role that Bravo has started to play, that saw him concede 3 times in mid-week.
This game promises to be an exciting one with 8 out of the last 9 games between the 2 sides seeing at least 3 goals in them, including last season where Tottenham won both games with 3 goals going through. I am backing over 2.5 goals in this encounter tonight.
Roma come into this game against rivals Inter with some decent form behind them. After losing 2 out of their last 4 games, a 1-0 loss to Fiorentina and a 3-1 loss to Torino, they beat Crotone 4-0 and Astra 4-0; which showcases the mixed bag of form that Roma are in. Roma’s offensive unit have been pretty strong mainly led by the creativity of Fransesco Totti who has been a revelation off the bench and even during his limited starts. Roma will definitely look to give the 40 year old captain at least 30 minutes in this game to make his mark on this fixture. Roma will have to rely on Dzeko, El Shaarawy and Salah up front to deliver the goals up front for the team, who are extremely quick on the counter-attack. Roma’s defence has been a mixed bag, and they have been exposed in conceding goals in 6 out of their last 8 games so far, with Inter looking to take advantage of that.
Inter on the other hand are struggling to find their identity under Frank de Boer. After going and beating the champions Juventus 2-1 and Empoli 2-1; they went and drew 1-1 with lowly Bologna before getting thrashed in the Europa League 3-1 by Sparta Prague. While Roma are also relegated to the Europa League, they are still giving their best efforts in those encounters. Inter will know that they need to step up their game against a strong Roma team who are just 1 point behind them in the table. Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic have been their major scorers, and the rest of the team also need to step up, if Inter are to make a return to the big leagues. Defensively, Inter have been struggling conceding goals in 7 out of 8 fixtures played till date, and that will be something Roma will look to take advantage of.
There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 out of Roma’s 6 Serie A games this campaign, while Inter have only faced on strong opposition in Juventus seeing 3 goals scored in that one. This is going to be another open game as Roma games generally are, and I expect 3 goals to be scored in this encounter at minimum.
