We are back to club league football action starting this weekend with FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
Real Betis began their campaign last week travelling to the Camp Nou to take on the defending champions Barcelona. They were taken to school by hosts and their attacking threat of Messi and Suarez; but still managed to find the back of the net twice. The 2 goals scored came from non other than their talismanic forward Ruben Castro.
Castro has been lethal in front go goal for several years. 3 seasons ago when they got relegated from La Liga, it was his miserly performance of 10 goals that was a contributor to their struggles. He then came in surging form in the one year in Segunda scoring 33 goals winning the title and securing promotion back. He then had a stellar year last season scoring 19 goals and the team landed in a respectable 10th spot (Last seasons highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9gZncyxfmE). He now needs to help this team go back towards Europa League spots for this campaign. Castro is the main option for Betis because he will be the striker furthest forward partnered with Antonio Sanabria. He is an outright poacher in the box while also having ability to score free-kicks and take a shots from outside the box. His most surprising skill is his ability to head the ball from good crosses despite only being 5 ft 7 inches. Castro is also a good option to score because he is Betis’ designated Penalty taker.
Real Betis will feel confident to go out in front of their home fans and give them a strong showing in front of goal especially since Deportivo are set to lose Lucas Perez to Arsenal who scored 17 goals last season.
I believe Betis will win this game, and to do that, they will rely a lot on Castro.
