The second international tournament out of 3 this summer will begin in France, which is EURO 2016. This tournament generally is considered one of the best tournaments around the world, on par with the World Cup in the eyes of many, as it has most of the top teams in the world.

Portugal v Wales – Both To Score @ 2.10 (888Sport) – 2.5 points

This is the clash between 2 team who you did not think would make it to this stage of the tournament, and yet, they both have qualified. The match is even more intriguing for a battle between 2 team mates from Real Madrid in Ronaldo and Bale.

You definitely know that Ronaldo isn’t going to show any respect for Bale on the pitch and do all that he can to help his team progress to win. The problem with Ronaldo is that he keeps whining when the ball is not played in the right spot to him. In order for Portugal to have a chance to win, they need someone to dictate the game from the midfield as this has been where most of the games that Portugal and Wales have played has been battled on. I expect Joao Moutinho to return for this game to the starting lineup in order to create chances for Ronaldo, Nani and Quaresma up front. Having all 3 of them up front helps Portugal against the Welsh defence that has been shaky and conceded early on to Belgium in the first half. The opportunity I find for Portugal, has been their defence which has been quite open at times especially on the counter attack and teams like Hungary, Poland and Iceland have made them pay for that. Additionally, their defensive midfielder William Carvalho is suspended while Pepe is potentially missing this game with a thigh strain, this will leave them vulnerable at the back.

Wales have been the true surprise package of the tournament, winning 4 out of their 5 games played in the tournament (late loss to England costed them the 100% undefeated record). They will be extremely motivated that they can create history for Wales, who are playing their first international tournament for 58 years and their first European Championships ever. Leading the pack has been Gareth Bale along with his partner in crime Aaron Ramsey, who has unfortunately been suspended for this game. The beautiful opportunity for someone like Sam Vokes or Robson Kanu to stand up and be counted in this game. The defence of Wales has been vulnerable as they have been slow to react at times and will not feel completely confident as Ben Davies will miss this game due to suspension. Changing partners at the back, generally leads to mistakes especially while maintaining the offside line, which could room for the Portuguese to take advantage of.

Both teams will look to take advantage of the weaknesses in the defensive unit of the others, and with that, I expect both of them will score in this game and especially Bale and Ronaldo will try to out do each other to showcase who is this best.
