The second international tournament out of 3 this summer will begin in France, which is EURO 2016. This tournament generally is considered one of the best tournaments around the world, on par with the World Cup in the eyes of many, as it has most of the top teams in the world.
The Spanish team have showed how dominant that they can be when they have the ball in hand. They controlled the game completely in their opening group stages, and should have won except for their late conceded goal against Croatia. The Spanish team rely on their defenders in Ramos and Pique to keep things tight at the back, while having Busquets giving him a cover at the back. While this happens, it leaves the full backs Juanfran and Alba to bomb on forward, crossing balls into the box, and that results in many corners coming in for the Spanish team. Spanish last few games have seen a lot of corners being smashed in by them: 5, 7, 14, 11, 5, 5, 11, 3, 6, 5. They have enough ability to get on the wings, and will want to create set pieces opportunities for their forwards on a regular basis.
Italy has been doing well in this tournament keeping everything tight at the back, and were unfortunate also to concede a late goal in the tournament. The Italians have been playing a 3-5-2 formatting leaving Candreva and Florenzi to be sitting in wide places, looking to whip corners into the box to give their team chances to win. Their forwards haven’t had the best of chances, and often fluff their lines in front of the box, so you see a lot of balls deflecting of players and going for corners. Their defenders in Bonucci, Barzagli and Chiellini, will do anything to keep the ball out of the box, and continuously do so in order to not concede a goal. Italian last few games have seen a lot of corners being smashed in by them: 4, 7, 6, 12, 4.
This game will be exciting with both teams looking to hold possession and create chances without conceding goals, and I expect a game filled with corners in this one.
England come into this encounter after a boring 0-0 draw against Slovakia, but managed to still find 3 goals in the group stages so far. They will rely a lot on Jamie Vardy, the Premier League Top Goal scorer, to deliver the goods as he has looked the most on song from the game he has started. Wayne Rooney has usual have been dictating the pace form midfield, creating opportunities for this team mates and even defending for their lives at the back. The England defence has been shaky, conceding in 2 out of the 3 games, and that tends to happen when you have exciting full backs in Rose and Walker who keep bombing on forwards, leavings spaces in the back.
Iceland have proven to be a strong team in space of adversity, scoring in each of the games that they have played so far, while being able to get points from each of their games to come 2nd in a group ahead of Portugal and Austria. Iceland defines has been shaky as well, conceding in each of their games, and have now conceded in 8 out of their last 9 games that they have played.
I expect both teams to potentially find the back of the net, but for safety, I am backing over 2 Asian Goal Line in this game between England & Iceland.
