This year its a special edition celebrating the 100 years of the Copa America including teams from both South America (10) and North America (6) and being played on North American shores for the first time.
Argentina are looking like the perennial champions of this tournament every time they play it, but surprisingly they last win came for them back in 1993. The Argentinians have rotated their squad across the matches, giving talisman Lionel Messi a rest, while Sergio Aguero first in a reserve role, considering Higuain’s form. The real form player of the team is Angel Di Maria, who has been scoring and creating chances, setting the tournament on fire, which has resulted in them winning all their matches so far. Argentina look extremely strong offensively, but also defensively where they only let in the one goal when the tie against Chile was all but wrapped up.
The Venezuelans had shown great steal defensively to beat Uruguay, who were struggling without their top player Suarez. They have beaten Jamaica and drew with a rotated Mexico squad. Before coming into this tournament Venezuela showed their struggles sitting at the bottom of the World Cup 2018 Qualification campaign, sitting rock bottom in 10th with just 1 draw and 7 goals in 6 contests. The Venezuelans rely a lot on the experience of Solomon Rondon who has played in Russia and England at the highest level. Even so it will be difficult for them, when they take on a full strength Argentinian squad.
The last time that these 2 sides met was for the 2014 qualification, where Argentina won comfortably by a score of 3-0. Lionel Messi will be starting this game from the beginning as he aims to add a senior international trophy to his cabinet. I expect a good win for Argentina by a score of 2-0 at least; so I am taking them on the Asian Handicap.
