The second international tournament out of 3 this summer will begin in France, which is EURO 2016. This tournament generally is considered one of the best tournaments around the world, on par with the World Cup in the eyes of many, as it has most of the top teams in the world.
Switzerland come into this encounter as a strong favourite to get out of this group in 2nd spot. They currently boast a talented bunch of players who are playing among the top clubs in Europe with Shaqiri, Xhaka, Liechesteinrer, Seferovic, Rodriquez, Mehmedi who have all had great seasons for their respective clubs coming into this tournament. Switzerland have a great talent going forward and scoring, which they have done in most of their games. Their opportunity has been defensively but taking on Albania should make their life easier for them to able to get out of this game with a victory.
Albania have the poorest offensive coming into this tournament with 7 goals form 7 games, and only qualified through the tournament because of a result awarded against Serbia of 3-0 due to pitch invasion. The team have done quite well defensively, which has seen them progress with only 5 losses in their last 18 games played. The team will see the Xhaka brothers square off against each other playing for opposing sides, and that should add some extra level of interest in the game. Albanians lost the 2 times that they have played Switzerland in the qualification for the World Cup 2014, so it will be a difficult ask to overcome.
Switzerland look like a good bet to win this game considering the form of their players and record against the Albanians, and I am backing the Swiss to win this game.
England come into this group with some excellent form behind them, winning 10 straight games in qualifying and 10 out of their last 12 games. The team has a fresh blend of youth that has not been seen in many years in the England national team. Captain Wayne Rooney is the talismanic player for this team and a lot ride on him to create a lot of chances for the team since he will be sitting in a no.10 role behind the striker presumably Harry Kane. The defence has been showing to be struggling for a few opportunities and I expect James Milner and Eric Dier to be sitting in the middle to give some added protection to the back 4 against a Russian team who have managed to score in their last 10 straight games.
Russia have been struggled over the last 4 games, unable to keep clean sheets, and have won just 1 of those 3 games since. They almost beat Serbia in their last friendly, until they conceded in the 88th minute. They have just got beaten by France, Czech Republic and Croatia prior to that with an ageing defence; which does not bode well for their confidence. The Russians have one major advantage as they have 6 players coming out of the victories CSKA Moscow team who won the Russian Premier League. Artel Dzyuba was in form with 8 goals in the qualifying campaign which was only bettered by Lewandowski and Muller. They have lost Dzagoev and Denisov to injury and couple that with the warm weather temperatures in Marseille which the Russians are not used to, it will be tough for them.
The young pacy youthful attack of England should have the advantage as compared to the Russian defence and thats why I back England to come out of this game with a victory.
