This year its a special edition celebrating the 100 years of the Copa America including teams from both South America (10) and North America (6) and being played on North American shores for the first time.
USA have turned around a leaf after their disappointing loss by a score of 2-0 to Colombia in the opening game of the tournament to go out and smash Costa Rica by a score of 4-0. Clint Dempsey was the hero for the Americans scoring a goal and providing 3 assists as he got them closer to booking a space in the quarter finals. USA know that they need only a draw, but will want to go out and exert some authority over Paraguay, and if results go their way, they could even top the group. Defensively they improved dramatically last time around, and taking on a Paraguay side who has scored only 1 goal, which was a lucky one, it should be another regulation clean sheet.
Paraguay as mentioned, have struggled offensively, and that is one of the reasons why they have not created any dents into the their opponents. They drew 0-0 against a lowly Costa Rica, and are heading for the bottom of the table, much like most of the punters out there expected. Since last year’s Copa America, Paraguay have won just 2 games against Venezuela and Bolivia who are the bottom 2 teams in the World Cup qualifying, and even though they want to try and get the 3 points to try and qualify, I don’t see how they could upset the Americans in front of their home fans.
USA have a lot of firepower up front, and have now settled after that loss to Colombia and thats why I back USA to beat Paraguay and qualify to the quarter-finals.
