As mid-week fixtures arrive, particularly in England, now is the time to try and latch on to some gems that can potentially give us some good profit.
Manchester City travel away to struggling Newcastle United who are languishing second from bottom in the table and don’t know when their next point will come from in order to survive and stay another season in the Premier League. They survived by beating a Swansea team who has nothing to play for, but now face a motivated Manchester City team who are look to progress and secure the Champions League spot for next season.
City totally demolished Chelsea on this weekend by thrashing them 3-0 thanks to goals from Aguero; but the entire team was in good sync in that last outing with de Bruyne, Toure and Nasri supporting the attacking of the team. They will be looking forward to potentially welcoming back Nasri and Kompany back to the team of this encounter, probably off the bench. Otamendi and Mangala have finally gotten into a rhythm keeping 2 clean sheets on the trot against PSG and Chelsea, which will give them a lot of confidence coming to face goal shy Newcastle tonight.
Newcastle’s struggles have been mainly defensively where they have conceded now in 7 straight games before keeping it clean on the weekend against a comfortable Swansea team. Newcastle have been constantly chopping and changing their back line due to injury with Lascelles, Mbemba, Anita and Dummett playing as the back four. Lascelles, Sissoko and Townsend all got on the scoring sheet on the weekend, and Rafa Benitez might feel they are undroppable after the strong performances on the weekend. Benitez will be looking at the prospect of looking to find a draw out of this encounter knowing full well that City will be out for blood and all 3 points in order to build some distance between them and Arsenal and also rack up the goals difference.
This game looks like Manchester City are going to demolish Newcastle like they have in their previous meeting by at least 2 goal margin, and thats why I am backing Manchester City on the Asian Handicap market.
Paris St.Germain might be done with the Champions League and have a complete control of the French Ligue 1 title in their hands, but they came out this weekend with a strong message thrashing Caen by a score of 6-0 with all of their big players in Zlatan, Cavani, Matuidi and Di Maria getting on the score sheet. This will boost the confidence of a lot of these players as they travel away to Lorient in the semi-finals of the French Cup. PSG are on a mission to once again secure the domestic treble since Champions League is now out of their grasp, and one can expect Blanc to field a full strength squad against Lorient in order to progress to the finals.
Lorient are relatively safe from relegation, barring some major mishaps they will continue to stay in this division for another year. They come into this game with just 1 win in their last 6 encounters, which won’t bode their confidence well taking on an in-form PSG team tonight. Lorient have really struggled taking on this PSG team as they have lost their last 7 straight encounters against the Parisians and 4 games by a minimum of a 2 goal margin. Their inability to take on the big opponents this season has also been seen as they have lost to Lyon, Monaco, Bordeaux, Lille, Nice, St. Etienne which will also be on the back of their minds.
I expect PSG to continue on their merry way as they have been in their recent run, and thats why I back them to win on the Asian Handicap once again.
