The knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League fixtures are tonight and a lot of entertainment is expected as we should see some feisty encounters coming into this one.
Manchester City hold the advantage of the away goals after sealing a 2-2 draw against PSG in the first leg last week. That leaves a very simple task for PSG, they need to score and outscore Man City and that means goals.
PSG have David Luiz and Blaise Matuidi are both suspended from this leg, which leaves them a vulnerable defensively, but they will have able replacements who could step up in Marquinhos and Stambouli/Lucas. PSG will rely a lot on their talisman Ibrahimovic to turn around his poor performance from the first leg where a missed penalty could potentially cost PSG the tie. Di Maria, Rabiot, Cavani have all been giving Zlatan the support he needs to create chance, while also taking the initiative themselves to try and score. PSG know that they will need to score early in the tie to put pressure on Man City. The instructions from Blanc will be to score early on and then keep it tight and the back, but PSG have been leaking defensively, and I expect a similar performance tonight.
Man City will be hosting the Parisians, and will be hoping to get rid of the Champions League hoodoo by qualifying to the semi-finals for their first time ever. City will be over-reliant on Sergio Aguero up front to deliver the goals for them. He will get some good support from an in-form De Bruyne, David Silva as well as the recently re-intigrated Samir Nasri who put a man of the match performance this weekend and even scored. Its no secret that City have great talent up front with Bony, Navas, Delph and possibly Toure available to equally support inc reading chances as well as scoring plenty of chances. Man City’s biggest problem this season has been defensively since Kompany has been ruled out. City have conceded in 3 out of their last 4 games in all competitions, and also 5 out of their last 7 games at home. With Otamendi and Managala at the heart of the defensive, they have been prone to many errors, and one can expect PSG to take advantage of this again.
I expect this to be an exciting encounter with both teams going for the goals to attack, but in the bargain I expect them to concede and we should see both teams scoring with at least 3 goals in the tie.
