England Premier League
Crystal Palace v Liverpool – Over 2,2.5 Asian Goal Line @ 1.88 (Bet365) – 2.5 points
Crystal Palace host Liverpool knowing full well that they will want to do the double over Liverpool after they beat them 2-1 at Anfield back in November and also need a solid result considering the fact that they have failed to win for 11 straight games in the league, going back to Boxing Day in December. Palace have seen themselves come back from 2 goals down against Sunderland to come back to 2-2 while they were also 3-0 down to West Brom and came back to 3-2 in that game. Palace’s games have not been without entertainment as there have been at least 2 goals scored in 7 straight games by Palace. Palace has also been leaking goals in all of this game, and things won’t get any better for them since Hennessy is out and Speroni could deputise for him.
Liverpool will be buoyed by a fantastic 3-0 win against Manchester City in mid-week and for sure bought in a lot of confidence to the team coming into this encounter against Palace as the aim for revenge for their loss in the reverse fixture. Liverpool have finally started showing signs of good performances since Daniel Sturrridge has come back into their lineup. Liverpool offence has seen to be good as they have netted 2 goals in 5 out of their last 7 league games. Liverpool defence has been a bit shaky also in this time as they have leaked goals in 6 out of their last 8 games. It will also be a bit difficult for them as Sakho and Skrtel are out with injury from this encounter.
This game promises excitement as it has been every time that ease 2 teams have met with 7 straight meetings between the sides seeing at least 3 goals being netted. I am backing this game on the Asian Line.
Milan head to this game against Sassuolo in great nick of form undefeated in 8 straight away games in all competitions heading into this game against Sassuolo while also sitting unbeaten in 12 straight games in all competitions. In fact they are good that they have put on a little run of being undefeated in 18 of 19 games with the only undefeated game coming against Bologna away from home.
Milan finally have a settled offensive unit with Bacca, Niang, Bonaventura and Honda sitting as the attacking front 4 for this lineup. They have strength in attack off the bench as they can call up Balotelli, Menez and Boating if needed for support. The midfielders in Montolivo and Kucka provide great support to the back line of Abate, Alex, Zapata and Antonelli. Milan have shown to improve their defence this year with clean sheets coming against good teams like Fiorentina, Inter and Torino in their recent run, so I expect them to concentrate to try and keep it tight.
Sassuolo have been an entertaining side this season and are one spot behind Milan in the table with 6 points separating them. What is surprising though is that Sassuolo have managed to win just 1 game in front of their home fans from their last 8 games, which came last time around against Empoli. Sassuolo have Berardi and Defrel who have 6 goals each so far this season to lead team in scoring, out of which 5 of their 12 goals came in the last 2 games itself. While form is on their side, they will have to be vary of the Milan defence that has been quite tight off-late.
This game will be an extremely tight and cagey affair, and Milan know that a victory in this game, could potentially leap frog them over Inter for the 5th spot which is the Europa League spot. I am siding with Milan here but on the Draw No Bet market.
Juventus travel away to Atalanta knowing that the destiny of this season is in their hands now that they have established a 3 point lead over Napoli. In this encounter they travel away to take on a struggling Atalanta side. Juventus will see that they have won 16 of their last 17 games in the Serie A; with just one draw with Bologna being the only blemish on their record in recent weeks. The front 3 of Manduzkic, Dybala and Cuardado have been really good in recent weeks while they also tend to rotate Morata and Zaza occasionally to keep things fresh and give their attack different dimensions. The midfield has been extremely strong with the likes of Khedira, Marchisio and Pogba pull the strings creating chances as well as giving cover to the back line.
Atalanta have been struggling in recent weeks failing to win a game in 12 straight weeks, and when you host the champions of Italy, it will be a tough night that you will have to look forward to. Atalanta have lost to good attacking teams like Fiorentina, Napoli, Juventus, Torino, Inter, Milan and that won’t boast their confidence with Juventus coming to down looking for nothing but victories. Goals have been hard to come by with 34 year old Pinilla still their best forward with 4 goals to his name, showcasing the tough times that this team have.
Juventus will take full confidence traveling away knowing that they have beaten Atalanta in 11 straight games, and for that reason and the form that they are in, I am backing Juventus to win on the Asian handicap that Juventus have covered in 7 out of the 11 games that they have won in a row.
Barcelona travel away to Eibar knowing that Eibar are coming into this game in good scoring form netting in 12 out of the last 15 games that they have played in front of their home fans. Eibar scoring performances netting against all opposition including in the reverse fixture against Barcelona where it was a 3-1 loss as they had scored first against the Catalans. Eibar will be relying not he likes of Borja Baston (16 goals), Enrich (6 goals), Saul & Adrian (4 goals each). Eibar’s recent form has not gone their way losing 6 out of their last 7, but managed to find he back of the net in 5 of those games. Eibar will also take heart in the fact that Barcelona have leaked goals in 4 out of their last 5 La Liga games as they keep rotating the defence and teams like Eibar take advantage of them on the counter attack. A great example was how 10 man Vallecano scored against Barcelona in mid-week
Barcelona are strong offensively, and despite travelling away from home, Eibar should not pose any major threat to them. However, for this encounter they will be missing Neymar who is suspended, so they will rely on recent hat-trick hero Messi and top league scorer Luis Suarez to deliver the goods. In place of Neymar, they will look to field either Arda Turan or Iniesta or the youngster Munir to cover. Nothing should surprise us less than a Barcelona win, but I expect them to continue their shambolic defensive record and conceded in another goal here.
