This is a pick from the late game in the Spanish La Liga between Sporting Gijon & FC Barcelona
Barcelona were kept quiet for most of their game on the weekend against Celta Vigo but only for the first half. A 1-1 scoreline quickly ballooned to 6-1 at the end of the 90 minutes; showcasing the dominance that Barcelona’s MSN have over the rest of their opponents in La Liga. Suarez in particular has been more hungary, more selfish then last year and this has push him forward to be the leading scorer in Spain this season. One man who will be hungry to get on the action tonight will be Leo Messi who turned provider in chief last time around and will not want to stamp his authority with a few goals. Barcelona’s focus will be on this encounter to grab 3 points and stretch their lead over Atletico Madrid to 6 points; so that they can rotate the squad on the weekend against lowly Las Palmas with the Champions League game in mid-week coming.
Sporting Gijon have improved in recent weeks managing 8 points out of a possible 12 in their last 4 games pushing them out of the relegation zone with a good chance of survival if they can meet the expectations with good performances. Dijon will be vary of their poor defence that got the better of them before those 4 games, as they were leaking goals left, right and centre. Still Gijon has shown 5 straight games in the La Liga and in 9 out of their last 10 games at home. They have relied on 19 year old Paraguayan forward Arnaldo Sanabria to score for them and he leads all scorers with 10 goals in just 16 games. The average age of their squad is around 23; which is extremely young for this league and thats why they have been struggling.
Barcelona will feel they have a chance to pump a few goals to their tally tonight against a youngish squad but Gijon will rely on home crowd support to help motivate them. I can see Barcelona definitely winning with 3-4 goals, but don’t be surprised of Gijon finds the back of the net against a vulnerable Barcelona defence that have leaked goals on the road in 3 out of their last 5 games.
