The NBA season is back tonight, and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
GS Warriors 112.5 points v DEN Nuggets @ 1.85 (888Sport) – 3 points
The Golden State Warriors travel away to Denver in order to take on a struggling Nuggets team who are 6-7 so far this campaign. The Golden State Warriors have been tearing it apart on the offensive end averaging 114 points per game.
The Warriors travel to take on the Nuggets who are an extremely poor defensive team, conceding over 104 points per game this season. Nuggets have shown to be extremely vulnerable against fast paced and good 3-point shooting teams like they did against Phoenix Suns (114 and 105), Lakers (109), Portland (104), San Antonio (109) among the few this season. These 2 teams have already matched up this season as the Nuggets traveled away and conceded 119 points.
The Warriors have relied a lot on Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes are averaging is 65 points per game. The team are shooting 48% from the field and 41% from 3-point territory to lead the NBA in both those marks. The Warriors have also taken a liking to playing against the Nuggets scoring buckets of points against them with their last 5 match ups reading 119, 133, 103, 122, 116.
I expect the Warriors to easily go over the mark of 112 points tonight.
POR Blazers -2.5 to beat LA Lakers @ 1.83 (Bet365) – 2.5 points
The Portland Trail Blazers travel to this game against the LA Lakers after beating their cross town rivals Clippers at home. The Blazers have lost 4 out of their 5 starters from last year; but still have All-Star point guard in Damian Lillard to try and lead this team to success this year. The Blazers have recruited well and have a good well rounded unit with the likes of McCollom, Aminu, Plumlee and Davis as their potential starting 5. They have a good starting unit with the likes of Crabbe, Henderson, Vonleh, Kaman and Harkless who provide good support off the bench to keep this team scoring. The Blazers are averaging around 100 points per game this season and relied a lot on the 3-ball averaging around 9 makes per game. Their scoring rate has been decent at 45% which has led to them scoring 1.2 shots per game. The Blazers have been playing some good team basketball and have shown to play well beating teams like Memphis, Utah, New Orleans and Minnesota; and should feel confident about playing the Lakers today.
The Lakers are a rut winning just 2 games all season, coming against 2 poor teams in Brooklyn and Detroit. While the Lakers are in rebuilding mode; they tend to let Kobe Bryant take too many shots for his shooting percentage this season, which is making things ineffective on the offensive end. The Lakers have tended to play close to teams like New York, Orlando, Denver, Dallas among teams who are not at the elite level and still yet manage to lose those close games. They have no particular strategy in their offence under Byron Scott, but I believe that they will learn to develop it as the season progresses and more when Bryant is off the floor. Randle is the only major doubt for them with a toe injury, which could mean Brandon Bass steps into the starting lineup; giving them less of a scoring impact.
I believe the Blazers know what they have to do to win and Terry Stotts is a very clever coach to get results with this rebuilding team, and I expect Portland to come out of this game with a win.
