With the World Cup 2018 qualifying campaign begun on some continents, I preview a couple of games which have a good chance on the tips to land.
Colombia travelled to Copa America champions Chile and manage to secure a 1-1 draw against them in a tough encounter, and will feel that the home advantage should help them in this encounter. Colombia have no longer the need to rely on Radamel Falcao who has been largely up and down ever since his major injury before World Cup 2014. The offence of Colombia is focused on Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, who is now promoted to captain of the team along with the front 2 of Jackson Martinez and Lucas Muriel. The 3 of them are in great form for their club teams coming into this fixture and also can rely on the likes of Carlos Bacca off the bench to provide a spark if further goals are needed. Defensively Colombia have shown to be shaky especially with Ospina struggling for form this campaign. Colombia conceded first in their last game against Chile and previously conceded 3 goals against Uruguay also.
Argentina have many injuries with their best 3 strikers in Aguero, Tevez and Messi all injured and missing this encounter. Argentina still managed to field a strong front 3 of Higuain, Di Maria and Lavezzi; all of whom are also doing well for their respective club sides. The Argentinians can also count on support of the midfield who boast Banega, Gaitan, Lamela and Perez amongst experienced professionals. Defenensively Argentina have been struggling shipping out 5 goals in the last 4 games including teams like Mexico, Ecuador and Brazil.
Both teams will look to keep a tight affair, but knowing that early points in the group will definitely help them secure qualification earlier. The last few meetings between these sides in Colombia have seen both teams score and its more likely to happen as both teams have been struggling to keep clean sheets recently and their offences looking in good knick.
Uruguay host Chile in this game and will be in a full mood to turn up the offence especially after losing by a score of 2-1 to Ecuador on the weekend. Luis Suarez who has been their key player and in-form one too, is ruled out due to suspension in this encounter. That means Uruguay will need to rely on the likes of Cavani, Hernandez, Lodeiro and Carlos Sanchez to score the goals for them to stay in this contest. Uruguay are generally a good team at home seeing them unbeaten in their last 12; and will be looking to count on that home support to take them over the rope in this tough encounter against Chile.
Chile are the form international team not losing in 11 straight games and that form has been due to Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez has been in good knick for club and country, and has a good crew of supporting cast to help him with goals as well as setting them up in Vidal, Vargas, Isla and Beausajor. The for of them are quite attacking and often look for opportunities to pass the ball to Sanchez who generally finds his way to the net. Defensively they are currently playing Medel at the back along with Jara and Silva in a 3-5-2 formation. That formation itself leaves opportunities for teams to exploit them on the counter attack as has been seen in their last 2 games where they have conceded 4 goals in them.
This game should be an exciting one as Chile beat Uruguay in the Copa America; while the last game in Uruguay saw them beat Chile 4-0 with Suarez’s help however. These 2 teams are the challengers to the throne of Argentina and Chile in South America, and both will look to go for goals as they aim to secure their spot for the next World Cup.
