The NBA season is back tonight, and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
SA Spurs -6 to beat SAC Kings – @ 1.67 (Bet365) – 3 points
The San Antonio Spurs have started out the campaign going 4-2. Their first loss came on opening night against OKC Thunder who were on super fire and now that the team has adjusted to have Aldridge in the lineup; they won 4 in a row, before losing to a late 3 point shot from the Washington Wizards. They smashed the Charlotte Hornets 2 nights ago by 20 points; and will be looking to replicate a good win tonight.
Leonard has been the leader of the offence of this team and will be here for many years to come. He has been averaging 21.8 points per game to start out the season while also getting 2 steals, 1 block and 8 rebounds per game to provide a truly all round performance. Aldridge has also adjusted well replicating his 15 points and 9 assists that he did in his early period in Portland. His points were expected to slow down since the Spurs players like to pass around a lot. The rest of the players including Parker, Ginobili and Duncan are averaging double digits while Green, West, Mills are also trying to keep up pace with their big 3. Defensively you can’t not be as good as the Spurs who are 3rd in the NBA in points allowed and top 10 in opponent field goal % and 3-point %.
The Sacramento Kings have struggled since Cousins has gone down, and while he is expected to be back; the rest of their offence has really struggled to keep up the pace. Collison is out with an injury, which means Rondo has to put in more time on the floor; which means not the best offence for them as Collison was playing well on the scoring front. Rudy Gay, Marco Belenelli and Omri Caspi are contributing on the offensive end in the absence of Cousins. The King’s players other than Rondo, Cousins who are known defensive players and Belinelli who has played in the Spurs system, the team has struggled on that end of the floor. They are giving up the 2nd highest points in the NBA with 111.
I expect the Spurs to build of the rest they have had last night and come into play the Kings and cover the spread.
DEN Nuggets v POR Trailblazers – Over 207.5 points @ 1.83 (Bet365) – 2.5 points
The Denver Nuggets are looking to recover from their 2-4 start this campaign, and they could not have found a better opponent than their divisional rivals in the rebuilding Portland Trail Blazers. The Nuggets while have not been able to deliver victories are focussing on scoring points. While they average only 97 points per game; that average significantly jumps up the moment that they take on Portland where it shoots up to 105 points per game. Not to forget this season they have a fresh Gallinari, a talented young scorer in Mudiay and the Manimal Kennth Faried leading them in the scoring this campaign. The weak side of Denver’s game is that they play poor defence, they have let in 105 points per game so far this campaign and its gets worse when Portland come to town averaging 111 points per game.
The Blazers got an absolute shocker of a performance from the Pistons last night where they outscored them 41-11 to blow an 12 point lead and win the game by 17 points at the end. The team would have been utterly demoralised especially since they put in a lot of effort till the final whistle, that could leave them tired and suspectible to leaking poor buckets on some bad defence. On the scoring front however, they are in 7th spot in the NBA averaging 104 points per game and they love playing the Denver Nuggets to be looking forward to a performance tonight. Lillard is clearly their top player averaging over 25 points per game and he has good back from McCollom, Plumlee, Aminu and Leonard. While the rest of the bench are also good players; they are always a constant threat from downtown as they are second in the NBA with almost 11 three’s made per game from 28 shots taken.
This game will be expected to be an entertaining one for all parties concerned and these 2 teams have gone over the line in all 4 of their games last season and one can expect it to be similar tonight as well.
IND Pacers v ORL Magic – P.Geroge Over 23.5 points @ 1.83 (888sport) – 2.5 points
The Indiana Pacers were like, gosh wish we had Paul George. As it turns out, he started a few games last season and even this season as well. Then came the last 3 games where George has averaged 28 points per game. What was even more significant it came against 2 good defenders in Deng and LeBron James as well as against Boston.
When George players the 3 spot to his prime; other than Durant and James, you can definitely rate him as the 3rd best player at that position. George now has the mantle of being the franchiser player and team captain; and tried to show that every night by leading from the front.
George has improved over the last 3 games because he has got to the line 7 times per game as compared to an average of 4 times per game. That tells you he is trying to score more high percentage shots for the season. He has also increased his 3 point attempts from 4 to 6; and that has slightly improved his average to knocking down a minimum of 2 per game. As the primary offensive weapon in this team, his team mates are always looking for him, as a result he attempts a team high 18 shots per game, knocking down around 9.
Tonight he takes on a young Magic team in front of their home fans, and will want to show them and Evan Fournierthat he still has what it takes to be among the elite players in the league and continue his scoring run. Players who he has guarded including Ariza (19 points), Snell & McDermott (20 points) have scored points against him and he is also not known for being a defensive stalwart.
