England Premier League
Southampton to beat Sunderland @ 1.80 (888Sport) – 2.5 points
Southampton are a team in form going 7 games unbeaten since their close 2-3 loss to Manchester United and that form has come courtesy of some great performances of Graziano Pelle. He has scored 5 goals in the last 7 games as well as chipping in with 4 assists showcasing his form in the final third of the pitch. The attacking trio Pelle along with Tadic and Mane, has really made this team one to watch out on the counter attack. When the 3 of them are in good form like they were against Chelsea, Swansea, Liverpool and even last week at Bournemouth.
Sunderland have signed on Big Sam as their new manager, who has since performed really well, but have failed to get any positive results except against the struggling Newcastle outfit. Last week they showed some promising signs to perform where they came back from 2-0 down to 2-2; but then collapsed majorly defensively to Everton and then lost by a final score of 6-2. Up front Danny Graham, Jermain Defoe and Yan M’Villa have decently well until now and it will be interesting to see if they can maintain the momentum defensively where they have been absolutely horrible.
This game has all the making of an exciting encounter as both teams are in scoring form, but Southampton are in that run of games where they are table to squeeze out results even in difficult situations. They are well organised and are extremely good on the counter attack. I expect Southampton to continue their run of form and leak out of a victory in this game.
Leicester City and Jamie Vardy continues his great form netting in 8 straight Premier League games, and he will look to continue his form by netting in today while playing against Watford in front of their home fans. Leicester City put in a great performance last week after going down 1-0 to WBA; they came back to win the game by a score of 3-2. Along with Vardy his attacking midfielder partner in Mahrez has also been playing well, that saw him net 2 goals last week after going quite for a couple of weeks before that. Leicester have only lost 1 game so far this campaign which was a 2-5 loss to Arsenal, but either side have ensured that they have grabbed points in all those games. They have scored in every single game that they have played so far, while conceding in all but 1 game against Crystal Palace so far.
Watford have been also led by a surprise man in Igahlo who has 7 goals to be the 2nd highest scorer behind Vardy and his form has seen led them to recent wins against West Ham and Watford. Watford managed to keep 2 clean sheets in those 2 games, but will be under the pop when Leicester come to town, who love to score against any and all teams. Gomes the keeper of Watford has been in good form so far, and his performances have seen Watford play well. Watford however tend to get under pressure as they have conceded 9 out of their 10 goals in the 2nd half; which is exactly the time that Leicester like to score.
Both teams have been in scoring form and I expect an entertaining encounter with both to score and over 2.5 goals.
