The UEFA Champions League kicks off this mid-week and we hope to add this mid-week football excitement to our calendars to keep us entertained every week.
UEFA Champions League
Roma v Leverkusen – Over 2.5 goals & BTTS @ 1.90 (Bet365) – 3 points
Leverkusen will take a lot of confidence after coming back from being down 4-2 to come back and drawing 4-4 against Roma in their last encounter. This game also promises to be an equally exciting one as Roma face elimination unless they secure a win to put pressure against Leverkusen and BATE.
They certainly boast a great array of attacking talent with Kiessling, Hernandez, Çalhanoğlu, Bellarabi, Kramer and Mehmedhi who can all pounce on the attack and come with a goal at any opportunity like they showcased in their 4-1 win against BATE and 4-4 draw with Roma. Hernandez in particular has settled like a duck to water since joining Leverkusen and scoring goals for fun to help them with their offence. Roma’s games tend to be high scoring because their offence has been good and their defence has been shaky conceding 8 goals in their last 4 games alone.
Roma had scored 2 goals per game in 7 straight games until they lost 1-0 to Inter Milan this weekend. Roma will need all their big guns to fire in this encounter if they have to stay in the contest. With a great attacking threat including Dzeko, Salah, Gervinho, Falque, Iturbe and the midfield support of Pjanic, de Rossi, Totti, Florenzi, Nainggolan they have enough power to put in a good performances to win on the offensive end. Defensively they have been average, conceding goals in 11 straight games so far.
The last game saw a 4-4 encounter with over 2.5 goals and BTTS landing inside 30 minutes; and I am expecting an equally exciting encounter, as both teams need to win if they want to progress to the next stage.
UEFA Champions League
Lyon v Zenit – Over 2.5 goals @ 1.98 (Bet365) – 3 points
Zenit have been in firing form in this competition till now winning all 3 of their contests scoring 8 goals in the process. They have been led by the large Brazilian HULK who has scored 3 out of those 8 goals and has shown no signs of stopping as he even netted in 2 out of the last 3 games that his side has played. He also scored against Lyon at home, and will want to build on the success that his team is having in the competition. Zenit have had over 2.5 goals in the match in their last 7 straight games. They also have Dzyuba, Witsel, Ryazantsev and Shatov among the players who are good at scoring and will chip in with a good performance.
Lyon are hosting Zenit at home and have progressed well to move into 2nd spot in Ligue 1. They will be looking to build on the run of form since the Zenit game where they have now won 2 straight. Lacazette, Fekir, Valbuena and Beauvue make up the offense of Lyon who have scored 4 goals in their last 2 games without reply. They are sitting rock bottom of the table with 1 point and know that if they do not score goals tonight; they will not even make it to the Europa League this season.
Zenit want to seal qualification to the next round while Lyon need goals to win, and I expect another exciting encounter when these 2 teams meet.
