The NBA season is back tonight, and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
SA Spurs -4 to beat BOS Celtics @ 1.71 (Bet365) – 3 points
Kawhi Leonard Over 17.5 points @ 1.85 (888Sport) – 2.5 points
The San Antonio Spurs come into this encounter in confidence after beating out their opponents Brooklyn Nets by 27 points after suffering a close opening game defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Spurs took some time to adjust but finally have a good understanding of Aldridge in their system as got his first double-double of the season in that game with 10 points and 11 rebounds. He also managed 4 assists which will become a highlight creature of the Spurs offence. The Spurs also have the big 3 of Parker, Duncan and Ginobili who all landed up in double figures. But they have been led so far this season by their franchise player for the coming years in Kawhi Leonard. He has averaged 24 points in 2 games, quite a high scoring player for a Spurs offensive system.
Boston Celtics have started 1-1 with both games being played at home. Last time out the Toronto Raptors showed them with the Celtics will potentially struggle with teams who have a good defence which might be something difficult to handle when the Spurs come to town. Isaiah Thomas has been their go to scorer averaging 26 points per game. Thomas has struggled shooting the ball from outside but have made his dribble penetration count and has scored plenty of points form inside. The team is built up several average players with only David Lee and Thomas standing out as good players.
The Spurs should have too much in their defensive locker to shut out the Celtics, and I expect this to be a low scoring but a solid performance from the Spurs to win this game.
OKC Thunder Over 112.5 points v DEN Nuggets @ 1.85 (888Sport) – 3 points
Russell Westbrook over 27 points @ 1.85 (888Sport) – 2.5 points
The Oklahoma City Thunder have started out this season in fine fashion with 2 straight victories and their efforts have been due to the fact of their big 2 players Durant and Westbrook off to this season in high scoring fashion. Durant is averaging 32 points per game while Westbrook is averaging 40 points per game to make them once again the best 1-2 punch in the NBA. They have a talented team who game back nearly defeat to win a double overtime game against the Magic 2 nights ago.
The Thunder will be happy that the teams offence has got into rhythm after struggling last season with a lot of injuries. Kanter, Ibaka, Waiters and Augstin have all found their rhythm in the Thunder offence, and they should go back to being one of the top scorers in the NBA now that they have multiple options of scoring in addition to the fine form of their big 2. The Thunder also have a decently dangerous 3-point team with Durant, Westbrook, Augstin, Waiters, Morrow among the players who can net it from down town.
The Nuggets on the other hand have been shocking in their 2 games so far. They surprised the Houston Rockets by beating them in their opening game by 20 points and then lost against a youthful Timberwolves team by 17 points in the next game. This Nuggets team desperately needs to be gutted to surround the future players Mudiay, Faried and potentially Gallinari with better quality if they are able to think about making the playoffs.
While the Nuggets have not given away more than 90 points as an average this season, they actually now face a team with high-octane offence, with which they have to try and contend with. With a lot of younger players and slow veterans, I can expect the Nuggets might be in for an OKC Thunder stuffing tonight. I back the Thunder to score a lot of points against the Nuggets tonight.
ACCA @ 8.67 (Bet365) – 1 point
OKC Thunder -6 to beat DEN Nuggets
SA Spurs -2.5 to beat BOS Celtics
CHI Bulls -4 to beat ORL Magic
DAL Mavericks to beat LA Lakers
ATL Hawks to beat CHA Hornets
