Liverpool are one of the teams that somehow always land up getting a lot of corners. There are particularly good reasons for why I am backing them for the over 4.5 corners today which are as per below.
Liverpool used to play the 3-5-2 formation, which had a lot of reliance on the wing backs to bomb forward and cross balls into the box to deliver goals. Now they have shifted to Klopp’s favourite 4-2-3-1 formation, which gives attacking instinct from the the 2 wide men as well as the 2 overlapping full backs passing them. On the left you have Moreno and Coutinho while on the right you have Milner and Clyne; and all four of them play their best in that role crossing balls.
Liverpool have man in the hole which will either be Lallana or Firmino who have been given the freedom to wander around and create their own play. They often land up shooting from outside the box or if anything push towards the backs and get the corners if they are stuck up with nothing left to play.
Liverpool also depend for a lot of their scoring on corner kicks. With a lot of talk defenders like Sakho, Skrtel, Loveren, Benteke, Origi; they are a constant threat of set pieces and that has seen them gain a lot of corners.
Liverpool average over 7 corners per game this season for themselves with the lowest coming to only 4 corners only once in the game against Manchester United when their offence was absolutely appalling that evening.
Add to the situation in this game where the Chelsea defence has been lacklustre and leaking goals in 6 out of their 8 games, they would rather push the ball out of danger to the corners than actually get caught in a bad situation. Chelsea have given away their opponents an average of 6 corners per game, with the lowest being 4 against a poor Aston Villa offence.
This tip has personally landed up for me in the last 3 Liverpool outings, and I am surprised I haven’t tipped it until now.
West ham come into this game after one of the best performances of the season against Chelsea by winning 2-1 and have now seen this season where they have also beaten Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool under Slaven Bilic’s tutelage.
Bilic has been one to set out his teams to go for the attack and his recruitment in the summer has helped his cause by getting the right people in place. The midfield has seen 2 new additions in Payet and Lanzini who have been rising up the scoring and assist charts, and this has helped them get to the successful position that they have been. Andy Caroll is now finally fit and raring to go and came of the bench to score on last weekend. He will provide great support to relieve Sakho off the bench. With good full backs in Jenkinson and Creswell, you can be sure that the Hammers will get good service in the box for all of their players. Their games therefore provide a lot of entertainment as their players tend to drift of on defensive duties and we see them scoring 2 goals in nearly every game.
Watford pulled off the 2nd best shocker after West Ham last week, beating Stoke at home and showcasing the Premier League that they are not just here for fun, but are in contention to put in performances to win this season. Watford’s defence has been good conceding only 10 goals in 10 games. They have however played extremely poor away from home winning just 1 out of the 5 games played so far. The pressure to delver strong results in front of their fans might be the reason.
The value in this game is surely with West Ham who haven’t lost to Watford since 1985 as a pretext; but more importantly the Hammers have been playing well and do not deserve to be ranked as the underdogs in this game. Backing them on the Draw NO Bet market seems like great value for a team in good form.
