The NBA season is back tonight, and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
DAL Mavericks +11 to beat LA Clippers @ 1.83 (Bet365) – 2.5 points
The Dallas Mavericks travel to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers in what is expected to be a feisty affair after the DeAndre Jordan drama over the summer. Rick Carlisle and his groups will be waiting to take on the Clippers in this game to prove a point to the Clippers that Jordan made a mistake not signing for the Mavericks, who would have been an outstanding outfit if he signed for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks started their season last night with a tearing performance last night winning against the Phoenix Suns by 16 pints away from home, and will be looking forward to replicate that success tonight. The great news for Dallas is that Felton, Williams, Pachulia and Powell all had great games last night, and that is what Carlisle will be hoping is that the star cast around Matthews, Parsons and Nowitzki who should be sharing the load of the scoring in this season. While Parsons is injured, the Mavs are playing with Felton and Williams in the backcourt to give them sturdy performances and helped them play quicker and also nail 3-point shots. The bench of the Mavericks is an average one but they showed last night that if they get into they are a pretty decent outfit to help the starting 5 deliver results.
The Clippers last night were in cruise control for most of the game, until they fell apart in the 4th quarter where a 10 point lead got down to a tie. They finally needed Paul ‘The Truth’ Pierce to save them in the last couple of minutes with some clutch buckets to push a result. That resulted in their 2 biggest players in Griffin and Paul playing 37 minutes each, which will give them a bit of tiredness in this game compared to the Mavericks starters who played under 30 minutes. Griffin was the star player for the Clippers and one can expect him to have a good night out against a slower Dirk Nowitzki in the fixture tonight. Chris Paul will go head to head against his dear old friend Deron Williams, which will make for an exciting encounter. The Clippers bench is extremely long, but players like Smith, Rivers and Johnson proved to be absolutely useless in last nights encounter in the 15 minutes or so they got to play.
This game will look to be in favour of Clippers because their team is a bit more fitter and quicker than the Mavericks, but the Mavericks have got shooters all over the floor who can space it out for players like Pachulia and Powell to take advantage of some simple buckets. The Mavericks will be out for revenge following the summer fiasco with Jordan, and I expect this to be a good matchup, most likely a Clippers win, but I expect the Mavericks to cover the 11 points spread in this game.
