The NBA season is back tonight, and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
BOS Celtics v PHI 76ers – David Lee Over 9.5 points @ 1.85 (Unibet) – 3 points
David Lee comes into this encounter as the veteran leader for this squad and with some NBA Championship experience after winning the title with the Golden State Warriors last season.
Lee has been thrust to take on the role of the veteran in this team and goes straight into the starting lineup Tyler Zeller, Jay Crowder, Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley.
Lee excelled most during his time as the main offensive scorer in the team, something I believe that coach Brad Stevens will use in addition to Thomas and Smart. Why I believe David Lee will get off to a good start? Lee might either get bought out towards the end of the season to play for another title contender or might score heavily to help the Celtics into the playoffs. Either way he needs to for the sake of the last few years of his career, considering this is the final year of his contract.
David Lee will be useful to Stevens in several ways. One is on the pick and roll offence, because he has excelled in that for most of his career. He is also good in a pick and pop situation to take that 17 foot jumper to land a few points. Lee has been known as a tenacious rebounder also. When he started, he always landed up with close to 3 offensive rebounds a night, and while he has already started pre-season with 2 offensive boards per game, I think he will get closer to 3 and convert those opportunities in front of the rim.
SAC Kings v LA Clippers – LAC Over 107.5 points @ 1.85 (888bet) – 3 points
The Los Angeles Clippers are looking forward to the new season and more importantly for the fans because they have an entertaining starting lineup and a super deep bench that their rivals will be jealous of.
The Clippers start off with their front five of Jordan, Griffin, Pierce, Redick and Paul who give you a mix of Lobs, Dunks, 3-point shots, mid-range jumpers and points of the offensive glass. With Jordan and Griffin you have 2 strong players inside, who together average nearly 40 points per game. In the back court, you got the 3-point shooting specialist in Redick who averages nearly 14 points per game and most shots coming from down town. Then you got Chris Paul and Paul Pierce, who like to handle the ball, play the pick and roll and pick and pop and create their own shots from anywhere.
Moving to the Clippers bench you got the enigmatic Lance Stephenson, the smoove man Josh Smith, the son of the coach Austin Rivers, the multiple 6th man of the year winner in Jamal Crawford and Steady performing Cole Aldrich as the backup 5 in addition to support from Prigioni, Wesley Johnson, Mbah a Moute and Wilcox to give support. What you can guarantee is that the Clippers will keep pushing their opponents on the scoring end with the bench scorers in particular of Stephenson, Rivers, Crawford who love to keep scoring and provide an impact.
Sacramento Kings are now under George Karl, who have started out pre-season well, but nothing compares to a regular season game. While they have been winning, they have still being letting the points since their defensive unit has been largely poor other than DaMarcus Cousins and new signing Rajon Rondo.. They start off with rookie Cauley-Stein, who will still be getting used to the grind of the NBA, while Gay and McLemore are more scorers than defenders. The bench 5 are extremely poor defensively with players like Caspi, Butler, Collison and Belenelli. The team has been quite re-tooled but haven’t got challenged in the pre-season other than the one game against San Antonio who kept shuffling the pack also in that encounter.
The Clippers will feel that their scoring is what is going to help them win games rather than defines, and I expect a high scoring Clippers offensive performance tonight.
