As all the major leagues are now kicked off, we have far more varieties of markets to play in as we look forward to the football action on Super Sunday.
England Premier League
Crystal Palace Double Chance v Tottenham @ 1.90 (Bet365) – 2.5 points
Tottenham are coming into this game after playing in the Europa league with a victory following a narrow lucky victory against Sunderland last weekend, which was their first win of the league last season. Tottenham have had a struggling start to the campaign and that is primarily due to their goal scoring exploits. With hit-man Harry Kane flopping so far this season, failing to net in the Premier League so far, it has really troubled Spurs especially since they have no strikers on the bench that they can rely on. Tottenham have scored just 4 goals this campaign which is just above Newcastle, Stoke, Watford, West Brom and Liverpool which is really bad company for them to be in with to start of the campaign. Defensively they haven’t been as solid as was expected after signing Alderweireld and Trippier to solidify their back line. They have leaked goals in 4 out of their 6 competitive games so far this campaign.
Crystal Palace have been truly an entertaining team ever since Alan Pardew has taken over and that is purely due to the fact of their count-attacking football with the likes of Zaha, Bolasie, Sake & Puncheon. Crystal Palace have started out the season well winning 3 out of their 5 games, while losing extremely narrowly to Arsenal and Man City in those games, while managing to even beat Chelsea at the Bridge. In fact travelling away from home, Crystal Palace since January have only lost 2 games out of 10, which have been 1-0 losses to Chelsea and Southampton. Palace will truly feel that they will be able to get into the backs of the Tottenham defence who have been lacklustre to start of the campaign, especially with Palace scoring goals in 4 out of the 5 games this campaign.
Backing Crystal Palace on the Double Chance market is a good way to go especially since Tottenham are struggling to find the goals which is needed in order to secure results; so I will definitely feel this is a good market to be involved in for this game.
Napoli have managed to secure the services of Pepe Reina in goal; but since his lack of playing football regularly and his ageing days, you can see him leaking goals consistently. He managed to keep his 1st clean sheet in the Europa League against a poor Club Brugge side. Napoli’s poor defensive efforts have seen them conceded 6 goals in their 3 Italian Serie A games so far, with a back 4 of Albiol, Chirches, Maggio and Hysaj.
Up front Napoli boast a host of talent with the likes of Insigne, Mertens and Higuain up front along with a supporting cast including Hamsik, Callejon, Lopes & Gabbiadini to give them additional firepower. They have managed to score 10 goals in their 4 competitive games so far. When we look back at last season, Napoli’s games going back to April in the Serie A, which is now 12 games has seen them go for a minimum of 3 goals in each of those games, so when can expect entertainment tonight.
Lazio have been fairly average as compared to last campaign where they finished third, as they have had to sell a lot of their players to balance the books. With a back 4 that consists Basta, Mauricio, Hoet and Radu; who have fairly limited experience comparatively have kept only one clean sheet so far against a poor Udinese team. In the first 2 games that preceded Udinese; Lazio leaked 5 goals in those games. In their last 5 games they have conceded 9 goals in that time and they were treated to a goal fest when they got thumped 3-0 by Leverkusen in the league.
In this game they finally face a good attacking team in the Serie A in Napoli; who will always be on the edge looking for a goal especially since they have failed to win a game so far this campaign. The game between the 2 sides back in May was for the Champions League spot which saw Napoli lose 4-2 at home to Lazio; and the fans will be looking forward to such a repeat entertaining fixture in this encounter.
I expect goals to continue and I am backing over 2.5 goals in this encounter much like it has landed in the last 12 Napoli games and in 4 out of the last 5 Lazio games in Serie A.
Dortmund v Leverkusen – Over 2.5 goals @ 1.72 (Bet365) – 3 points
Dortmund have been the toast of the Bundesliga ever since they have changed their manager and now look a super renewed side. 34 goals in 9 games so far; which over 3.5 goals per game scored so far this campaign. Aubamayeng, Mkhitaryan, Reus together have scored 9 out of the 15 goals between them. Leverkusen have leaked in 6 goals in the last 4 games, and that should give the team confidence of being able to open up the defence on the counter-attack.
This also shows how they have changed their football under new manager Tuschel who is making them playing counter-attacking football, which is see many more players involved and scoring goals for them. Their goal difference is keeping them at the top of the Bundesliga, and another win tonight will continue to keep them there. Defensively they had looked good until the last week where they have conceded 6 goals in their last 4 games in all competitions.
Leverkusen have been average so far in the Bundesliga just winning 2 games out of 5, with a lot of their focus going on their Champions League commitments. But a solid 4-1 victory in the 1st game, should give them some breathing room in their group stage. Leverkusen will rely on their attacking talents in Calhanoglu, Mehmedi, Bellarabi, Kiessling and Kramer to step up to the plate and take advantage of a Dortmund defence that has been slightly vulnerable in the coming week.
This should be an extremely open game, with both teams needing victories to keep their ambitions going, and I expect plenty of goals in this game, as has been the case in all Dortmund games this season.
