England FA Cup
Arsenal v Chelsea – Both Teams to Score @ 1.80 (Betfair) – 2.5 points
Arsenal and Chelsea will go to battle in this curtain raiser looking to aim for a positive result to get the first positive result over their opponents for bragging rights ahead of a long campaign coming up.
This fixture generally turns out to be a tight one, with both teams to score landing in only in 2 out of their last 8 matches, and it is generally Arsenal who went on the losing end due to Chelsea’s tactics of shutting up shop and trying to hit on the counter attack. This time Arsenal have strengthened up with the signing of Petr Cech at the back. Arsenal on the other hand have always shown that they have the talent in midfield and on the wings in order to create goals and deliver a strong result. With the likes of Walcott and Carzorla on either wings and both signing new contracts this week will give them the extra urge to do well. The likes of Giroud, Ramsey, Wilshere and Arteta all have a lot to prove coming into this season, since they all struggled for most of last campaign with injuries.
Chelsea and Mourinho will be looking to build on the success of last season. He has already started the mind games and the verbal jousting with Arsene Wenger early on this season, and that will sort of play on Wenger’s mind especially since Mourinho has a positive record against him. Mourinho will look to his strong squad who led in the title race for most of last campaign; to start of the new campaign in the same vein. He has signed only Falcao, Nathan and Begovic as notable players, while releasing a lot of players that weren’t major contributors to the campaign last season except for Cech who was looking for new pastures. Costa and Hazard are now fit and with the back up support of Oscar, Willian, Fabregas and Matic; they will be looking forward to another successful campaign. Chelsea’s defence has been looking a bit slow considering that Terry and Cahill have progressed with age, and one could expect them to potentially slip up. Chelsea have leaked goals in all of their pre-season friendlies and that will bode confidence for Arsenal to find a chance of a goal.
I expect this to be a hot encounter between 2 managers and 2 teams who have been fighting for the titles for several years; and an exciting goal fest is what I expect in this game.
