Wolfsburg & Bayern will take on each other in the German Super Cup in Germany which generally is the curtain raiser to the Bundesliga season which starts next weekend.
German Super Cup
Bayern Munich to beat Wolfsburg @ 1.83 (Bet365) – 3 points
German champions Bayern Munich will look to kick off the season in style with a victory in the Super Cup tonight especially after Guardiola has strengthened the squad quite well over the summer. While losing Reina, Schweinsteiger and Pizzaro; they managed to strengthen well with the addition of Douglas Costa, Arturo Vidal and Joshua Kimmich to their lineup. Ribery continues to struggle to recover from an injury that has haunted him for much of last year; but Arjen Robben looks fit enough to get a place back on the bench.
Bayern’s predicted starting lineup looks extremely strong one – Neuer – Rafinha, Benatia, Boateng, Alaba – Lahm, Alonso, Thiago – Muller, Lewandowski, Costa. It gives them a full blend of attacking strength as well as insurance policy in the defence with a strong defensive midfield. Mario Gotze, Pierre–Emile Højbjerg, Sebastian Rode will be among the few off the bench who will be looking to prove a point to Guardiola for the upcoming season.
Wolfsburg on the other hand were the shock 2nd place team from last season, while also winning the Pokal led by inspirational Kevin de Bruyne. He remains a major doubt to be fit for this encounter, which will be a huge issue for the team considering that Gustavo, Hunt, Perisic and Dost are already missing due to injury. Wolfsburg have signed Max Kruse this year to give them additional fire power up front and can do a good job in the absence of Dost. If 2 out of those injured players would have been fit, you could have still given Wolfsburg a chance to find the back of the net, but without de Bruyne, Perisic and Hunt; they lack someone who could create goals for them.
Their predicted lineup look decent for Wolfsburg -Benaglio, Jung, Naldo, Knoche, Rodriguez – Arnold, Guilavogui – Caligiuri, Vierinha, Schurrle – Kruse; which shows they still have some talent to try and take the game to Bayern. Wolfsburg are technically the home team, but because its the Super Cup; the fans are split 50-50 throughout; which negates the home advantage for them.
I expect Bayern to play their full strength team to put on a statement for Wolfsburg sand the rest of the Bundesliga and come out with a victory in this game.
