The Europa League enters the final round of this competition with both teams looking to play seriously as the reward for a win is a place in next season’s Champions League; no matter where the team finished in their domestic leagues.
Sevilla come into this fixture as the favorites, more for his European pedigree as he has already won 3 Europa Leagues over the last 9 years. They also come into this fixture after dominating this competition until this stage and know that victory tonight is their only hope of getting into the Champions League for next season despite their best efforts to push in the La Liga.
Sevilla have been playing out of their skins recently, winning most of their games and losing just 1 since 26th of February which was against a strong Real Madrid team; which they should have easily drawn as well. Sevilla’s front players in Bacca, Reyes, Vidal, Suarez, Gameiro have been in great form. Bacca in particular has been in outstanding form for his team netting in 20 goals through out this year; and while he hasn’t played all the Europa League games, he has looked as the major threat for his team everytime he steps on the pitch. Along with his striker partner or sometimes a substitute for him in Gameiro; the 2 of them have smashed 9 goals together so far in this competition.
Dnipro are the major surprise coming into this competition, but have reached the finals through a lot of hard work, team work and strong defensive mindset. With the exception of the tie against Olympiakos that went for 6 goals; their other ties did not go for more than 4 goals; which is an average of 2 goals per game. Against Napoli; they left it late in the 1st leg to steal a late equaliser, while finishing up with a 1-0 victory at home in order to secure their position here. The only down side is that they have relied a lot on their home fans and home crowd in order to push them to this season. Kalinić with 3 goals is their highest goal scorer, which is the same amount of goals as midfielder M’Bia from Sevilla has scored, which tells you a lot of their reliance on defense to win games and lack of strong firepower up front.
Bacca would definitely be looking for a goal to win this and follow in the footsteps of his countryman Falcao by scoring and winning the Europa League; and that is what I am backing for tonight’s game.
