UEFA Champions League
Man City v Barcelona – Over 2.5 goals & BTTS @ 2.00 (Bet365) – 2.5 points
Barcelona and Man City face each other in an extremely important game between both the 2nd place teams in Spain as they aim to progress to the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Barcelona lost to Malaga on the weekend, but prior to that had been on a 10 match unbeaten run. With a talented front 3 of Neymar, Messi and Suarez; few teams will expect to contain them from scoring, however, it will be damage limitation in many cases. Messi in particular will be looking to add goals as he is the Champions League leading goal scorer, and with Ronaldo hot on his heels, he will be aiming to add some goals to his tally. Luis Enrique will want his team to net a minimum of 1, and maybe even 2 goals in order to put pressure on Man City heading into the second leg at the Camp Nou in 2 weeks time. They will also feel confident knowing that Man City has leaked goals in 10 out of their last 12 games owing to their struggling and slowish defense as well as struggles of keeper Joe Hart.
Man City had struggled to get a victory at all during January without Yaya Toure; now that he is back, they managed to rout Newcastle by a score of 5-0 with him pulling the strings in midfield. Key also to their good performance has been the return to goal scoring form of Aguero, the guile of Silva as well as the work ethic of players like Navas, Nasri, Dzeko and Fernandinho. City will have seen Barcelona’s recent performances and know that they struggle especially on the counter attack, which makes me feel that Zabaleta, Navas, Clichy and Nasri will probably play on the wings in this game in order to give extra width for the team in order to run fast on the break.
While a lot of top teams when they face each other tend to have tighter games, with no one willing to give an inch, Barcelona’s expansive style natturally creates opportunities for goals at both ends, and Man City knows that they need to get a positive result at home going into the second leg. All these factors playing together, I am confident we will see both teams score and have a minimum of 3 goals in this entertaining game.
