Looking to back some short but confident plays as I aim to turn around my poor NBA form.
POR Trailblzers -3 to beat UTA Jazz @ 1.67 (Bet365) – 2 points
The Portland Trail Blazers have made a great move to sign both Aaron Afflalo and Alonzo Gee to help their teams depth on the bench to add them along with Blake, Kaman and McCollom to make it a good rotational 5 that comes of the bench when they take on many opponents to give their starters rest. The Blazers come into this game on the back of 2 consecutive wins as well as some good performances from their 2 All-Star players of Aldridge and Lillard before the break.
The Blazers have amassed a great 36-17 record and look sure to break the 50 win mark this season and will look to continue their 4-5 win against their divisional rivals Utah Jazz in this game, who they already beat by 1 point earlier in the season. The return of Lopez to the starting lineup will give the Blazers the size advantage to compete again especially against a big Jazz lineup.
The Jazz have recently signed up Kendrick Perkins, who will most probably be bought out in order to give more time to Gobert and Favors up front as the starting front court for this young Jazz team. The Jazz have relied a lot on Hayward for scoring for most of the games, and tonight will be another such night again. The disadvantage that Hayward has tonight is having Batum guard him, and he has improved in his defensive ability to stop scorers like Hayward.
This will be a close game, and I expect the Blazers to just edge it due to their strong experience. I have taken a lower points spread due to the fact that most of their starters have to play a lot of minutes as Afflalo and Gee might not be ready to suit up tonight.
CLE Cavaliers -3 to beat WAS Wizards @ 1.86 (Bet365) – 2.5 points
The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t had the best of times away from home in the NBA, but when they take on conference rivals in the Wizards, they managed lose a winning game against at Washington owing to the fact they couldn’t score for almost 6 minutes in the 4th quarter of that game. Since that game, the Cavaliers have turned around their fortunes; built up some serious form for a 33-22 record which is almost rivalled to the 33-21 record established by Wizards.
When the 5th placed Cavaliers take on the 4th placed Wizards, they will feel lot more confident then the last away matchup due to the addition of Mozgov, Shumpert and Smith who give them added depth and improvement in scoring and defense. LBJ, Irving and Love will continue doing what they do best in creating chances, scoring the ball inside, shooting the three-ball and defending to the best of their ability. They have started to play as a team in recent weeks that is seen by their 8-2 run in their last 10 games, which things they have the better chance to win tonight.
While the Wizards have a pretty good team, their ability to put up a lot of scoring inside the paint helps them win a lot of games, unless they come up with some strong teams with some big presence inside. Their have been extremely poor from down town where they only knock down around 6 three-balls per game, which limits their ability sometimes to come back from games when they are down, as they do not have any genuine shooters in their lineup. The team chemistry has struggled a bit over the last 3-4 weeks or so, where they have gone 4-6 and lost games against some poor teams including the likes of Charlotte twice.
This game will be important between the Wizards and the Cavaliers, as both teams are looking for that home court advantage in the playoffs; and with around 28 games to go, now is the time for the Cavaliers to step up and show that they are genuine title contenders and I have them to grab the win tonight.
