The Premier League is back for a mid-week run of fixtures, and we look to take the opportunity to try and sneak in a few winners tonight.
Spain La Liga
Barcelona v Villareal – BTTS @ 1.90 (Betfair) – 2.5 points
Barcelona and Villareal take on each other as they aim to push each other to the brink, after they had played each other in the Copa del Rey just a week ago that resulted in a 3-2 win for Barca at home.
Villareal have been in great form since 9th of November, only losing 1 game since then which was against Barcelona last week. The team have been playing well as a unit ensuring to be tight on the defensive end, while finding those odd opportunities to score. Vietto, Uche, Moreno as the forwards have chipped in with 20 goals while midfielders Cheryshev, Gómez & J. dos Santos have been contributing a lot from the midfield. Cheryshev is also in 2nd place in the assists table showing how many he has created for his front line. Villareal have scored 16 goals in their 11 away games this season; but have conceded more than that with 16 goals.
Barcelona have been in outstanding form with Messi, Neymar and Suarez all scoring for them on the weekend and been in good form. This has helped Barcelona go on an 9 game winning streak including 6 straight in the league. While they have also scored a lot of goals, they have been in the conceding mode recently with 6 goals conceded in just their last 3 games. Their opponents Villareal scored 2 goals against them in that fixture, and will be expected to do something similar.
There should be no surprise to anyone about Barcelona scoring especially in front of their home fans, and Villareal will want to keep up their scoring form going with at least a goal in this game.
England Premier League
Stoke City v Man City – Both Teams to Score @ 1.90 (Betfair) – 2.5 points
Manchester City have been struggling since Yaya Toure went to the AFCON, and definitely something needs to change for them, and they will get a good opportunity tonight against Stoke City away from home.
Man City have been able to find the net on a lot of occasions especially since they boast a dearth of attacking talent including Aguero, Dzeko and Jovetic. However, no body found the back of the net on the weekend, with James Milner striking a late dramatic free kick to save Man City’s blushes against a poor Hull City team. The creative talent or driver of the midfield has been David Silva primarily, while Navas and Nasri have provided occasional support, chances created a few and far between. Man City knows that if they want to win tonight, they will need to score early today and put the pressure on Stoke City; however if Stoke scores first, they will continue to chase this game and potentially struggle.
The last time these 2 sides met Stoke had stolen a 1-0 victory at the Etihad and will want to push on for another victory especially after the poor performance against Hull City. Stoke managed to draw late in their lats game against Newcastle and that has resulted in 4 game unbeaten streak for the Potters. Crouch, Walters & Diouf have been the ones that Stoke has relied on especially due to injuries on Shawcross, Odemwingie and Bojan. Defensively, Stoke have been conceding in 55% of their games, and with a strong Man City team coming to play tonight, Stoke will be relying on an early goal to put pressure on City to secure a victory.
Man City have been poor defensively that has resulted in 67% of their away games having both teams scoring, in fact conceded in 9 straight games now; so expect Both teams to score as the likely pick of this game.
