Looking to grab on some early lines today to continue the decent run on the NBA picks we are having now.
LA Clippers Over 106 points v BKN Nets @ 1.90 (MarathonBet) – 2.5 points
The Nets had conceded 100 points last night easily against a poor Sacramento Kings team, and with a more attacking Clippers team, it will be difficult to see if they will match up well against them tonight. The Nets have been average in defense through out the campaign. They are among the top 10 worst teams in conceding the 3-balls; something that Clippers are top 3 shooting in the NBA. They also turn the ball over 14 times a game, which is in the bottom half of the NBA.
The Clippers coming into this game are one of the highest scorers in the NBA averaging 107 points per game. It’s not hard to see why that happens when all of their starting 5 plus their 6th man average double digit points per game. In particular Blake Griffin has been in sparkling form averaging 23 points per game to leads all the Clippers scorers, and also have JJ Redick who is 8th in 3-point shooting percentage in the NBA while knocking down an average of 3 threes per game. Chris Paul has recently upped his scoring average from an average of 17 to 18 points in the last 5 games. If all the Clippers top 6 players score their averages; they will easily net 94 points per game leaving the rest to to score 13 points among them which is not that hard. Last time around they missed some easy shots and went for too many 3-balls which costed them scoring the 111 points; as they scored 102; short by 9 points.
More than anything, on the back to back its difficult not to see how the Clippers do not go crazy on this team for a lot of points. Expecting the Clippers to wake up from their slump last game and secure the points this time around.
POR Trailblazers v BOS Celtics – Lillard Over 24 points @ 1.83 (MarathonBet) – 2.5 points
Damian Lillard just turned on to be the most important player for Portland now, as they are down without 3 of their forwards in Aldridge, Lopez and Freeland. Lillard’s importance goes up now as he has to shoulder the responsibility of being their best player and their top scorer now as well.
Lillard didn’t particularly have a good meeting when they took on Celtics last time around, netting only 12 points; but at home he needs to show what a strong player he is. He has particularly had a horrid time from downtown going 7-34 in his last 4 games, and needs to improve his scoring percentage particularly against a poorer Celtics team. Lillard needs to go back to his form in December scoring 24 points per game.
Lillard’s game plan needs him to stick to his key scoring strengths, getting 3 of 7 from downtown for 9 points; getting to the free throw line for 5 of 6; which secures 15 points off the game; and all it takes after that is 5 buckets.
In the last few games of the Celtics, they have defended the point guard position not so well with players scoring heavily Lowry (19 points), Teague (22 points), Rose (29 points) and they have been the top scorers on the night in those games. With lack of too many scoring options tonight; you can definitely count on Lillard to get the score.
