Looking to grab on some early lines today on this special NBA day of Martin Luther King Day.
LA Clippers Over 111 points v BOS Celtics @ 1.90 (MarathonBet) – 2.5 points
The LA Clippers come into this game against the Boston Celtics with plenty of good form on their side after routing the Sacramento Kings by 9 points. In their recent stretch of 5 games they have 112.5 points per game.
The Clippers coming into this game are one of the highest scorers in the NBA averaging 107 points per game. It’s not hard to see why that happens when all of their starting 5 plus their 6th man average double digit points per game. In particular Blake Griffin has been in sparkling form averaging 23 points per game to leads all the Clippers scorers, and is now the 8th highest scorer in the NBA. They also have JJ Redick who is 8th in 3-point shooting percentage in the NBA while knocking down an average of 3 threes per game. Chris Paul has recently upped his scoring average from an average of 17 to 18 points in the last 5 games. If all the Clippers top 6 players score their averages; they will easily net 94 points per game leaving players like Rivers, Hawes, Davis, Turkoglu, Jones need to score 18 points among them which is not that hard.
The Celtics completely forgot how to play defense since they lost Garnett, Pierce, Allen and now Green & Rondo. They are among the worst 5 in the NBA throughout the campaign conceding 104 points per game. They have traded away their key players and rely a lot on Sullinger, Olynyk, Zeller, Bradley and Turner to be their starting 5 for most of the campaign. They have conceded over 100 points in their last 5 games; and conceding 15 turnovers per game will not help them give more opportunities for their opponents.
One this big day, I expect the Clippers to dominate from the starting minute of the game, and smash in a lot of points tonight.
PHX Suns Over 112 points v LA Lakers @ 1.90 (MarathonBet) – 2.5 points
The Phoenix Suns boast an extremely healthy roster and are in good form recently as they try to push on for victories with the Oklahoma city Thunder in their rear window. Phoenix have won 2 straight games including against Minnesota and Cleveland which will give this team confidence heading into this game against LA Lakers. The Suns have a host of talented players at the guard positions including Dragic (17ppg), Bledsoe (16ppg), Thomas (15ppg), Green (14ppg), Marcus Morris (10ppg) and Markieff Morris (16ppg) among their top scorers. If all of these talented players score their average tonight, they will easily net 88 points tonight.
The Suns have been among the League High scorers averaging 107 points per game, which is the 3rd highest in the NBA behind Golden State and Dallas. They are making around 10 3-balls per game, for 5th highest in the NBA. They are also a top FT shooting team averaging 80% for the 1st spot in the NBA while knocking down 17 shots from 21 attempts.
The Lakers have been struggling really badly this campaign conceding 106.5 points per game for 29th spot in the NBA. The result of this has been playing with largely in-experienced players, who are still understanding how to play offense and do not know how to play defense at all. Couple that with a lot of injuries that the team has faced, its difficult to see how this team gets motivated. All the more they want to tank so that the 1st round pick that they have given to Phoenix, comes back to them if they land the top 5 in the lottery. Their opponents are scoring 9 3-balls per game, which is the highest conceded in the NBA as well. The Lakers have lost 4 straight games against poor opponents like Utah, Cleveland and Miami; who all had a lot of absences.
In the 3 games played with Los Angeles Lakers so far, Phoenix have reached the 112 points on all 3 occasions, crossing it twice, while beating the Lakers on all 3 attempts; and I expect a similar high scoring game tonight.
