The 1st SOCCER SATURDAY of 2015 and looking forward to starting off this year in a good way.

England Premier League

Tottenham AH-0.25 to beat Crystal Palace @ 1.90 (BetVictor) – 2.5 points

Tottenham have come into this game in the Premier League after their last superb performance beating Chelsea 5-3 in New Years Day; and will ride on that confidence coming into this game. That form for that win and recent run of victories have come behind the influence of the success of Harry Kane. He has now scored 6 goals in his last 7 appearances and will be aiming to continue that form which has seen him be England’s leading scorer in the Premier League as well. Tottenham’s issues will stem from the defensive end, but with Crystal Palace struggling to scoring with just 2 goals in their last 7 Premier League games, it seems extremely unlikely how you would not back Tottenham to win this game.

Crystal Palace while they managed a 4-0 in the FA Cup, it was against Dover after all. While Pardew is taking over in the dug out; I think they should survive, but its difficult to see how he will turn it around. While the criticism will be less for Pardew at Palace, where he is hailed a hero; a dull stalemate last time around shows how much work he has to do in such a short span of time. The goalscoring department is their big struggle with lots of players like Campbell, Gayle and Murray fighting for 1 striker spot; and I think that on current form, you do not see them finding an opportunity to score.

I like Tottenham to win on their current form, but taking some insurance on the asian markets, incase it lands up being a stalemate, like it did in their last meeting in December.

Man City to beat Everton @ 1.83 (Bet365) – 2.5 points
Man City over 10.5 corners @ 1.72 (Bet365) – 2.5 points (#INPLAYMAGIC)

Manchester City have been in some good form with them not losing a game since the 5th of November, they will feel they have a good chance to beat a struggling Everton team tonight.

Manchester City managed 8 wins and a draw since December started and they had all their injury concerns with the likes of Kompany, Aguero, Dzeko, Jovetic, Silva missing at some point or the other. That shows a test of character for this team to win when the chips are down and you do not have a fit striker, they still managed to leak out the victories due to the strong midfield showing of players like Milner, Nasri, Silva, Navas to name a few. Defensively is still where Man City have been struggling as they kept only 4 clean sheets in their last 9 games, but leaking more than 1 goal on many occasion, which is something they need to work really hard on.

Everton have looked really lost in recent weeks with just 1 victory since December began against a poor QPR team, but their ineffectiveness in front of goal has been the cause for concern mainly as Lukaku, Naismith, Mirallas, Etoo and Kone have failed to show consistent performances in front of goal. Everton have shown how bad things can be by losing to poor sides like Hull, Newcastle, Stoke in the last month. What also does not help Everton is the numerous injuries that they have with no fewer than 8 potential starters Hibbert, Gibson, Pienaar, Osman, McCarthy, Distain, Alcaraz and goalkeeper Howard.

When the 2 sides met last in December, City sneaked out a 1-0 victory against them and won 3 straight games against Everton, and the addition of their 3 strikers back in the squad of Aguero, Dzeko, Jovetic; it won’t be any surprise why the punters will back Man City to win tonight.

Spain La Liga
Valencia DNB to beat Celta Vigo @ 2.10 (MarathonBet) – 3 points

Valencia come into this game against Celta Vigo odds against, despite winning 5 out of their last 7 games, while the other 2 games were draws. They are in brilliant mood after beating Espanyol and Real Madrid in the last week by scores of 2-1. In fact since August the team has only lost 3 games and will feel that they are also a form team who are within 5 points of the league leaders Real Madrid.

Valencia have a great attacking lineup with the likes of Negredo, Alcacer, Rodrigo and Piatti, who all can easily rotate in the 2 striker slots which makes them a very threatening team as was seen last week. Against Real Madrid they showed after going a goal down, they stuck in and played a lot of counter attacking football led by their midfielders Barragan, Parejo, Perez and Fuego who really showed a lot of mettle in their performances.

Celta Vigo have been in decent run for most of the campaign, that has seen them jump to 9th spot in the table. However, recent performances have been abysmal, losing 6 straight games in the league without scoring a single goal; and with just 1 win in their last 9 games, its hard to see how they will be able to beat this strong Valencia team. Lot of absences for Celta today with Cabral, Planas, Larrivey and Oubina, and with a team that hasn’t scored since 1st November in the league; I have to give my full backing to Valencia tonight.
