Happy New Year to everyone, and we start of the new year in cracking fashion with a full host of Premier League fixtures, and I am hoping to take advantage early on in those games.
England Premier League
Chelsea to beat Tottenham @ 1.80 (Bet365) – 3 points
Chelsea are coming into this game with a narrow lead with 3 points on Manchester City. With Manchester City playing Sunderland earlier in the day, Chelsea could use this opportunity to take 3 points against Tottenham.
Tottenham have been in decent form with 2 draws and 3 wins from their last 5 games, and will be looking to try and put a positive result on the board after getting a nice draw against Manchester United. The only difference however, will be a fresh and fit Chelsea team who are extremely attacking and scored 7 goals for no reply against Tottenham last season.
Tottenham’s defense has been leaky despite Lloris being among the top keepers in the league, conceding 24 goals while also scoring 24 goals. They have had a lot of injuries which has chopped and changed their defense not giving them much stability. Compared to the other front where Chelsea have netted a goal in almost every game; and with most of them ready to go after a 3 day rest, it should be business as usual for the Chelsea folk in this game.
Chelsea and Mourinho know that they would need to send out a strong statement to Manchester City who have the easier of the fixtures over the Christmas, and I expect a strong performance from Chelsea to secure the full 3 points in this game.
West Ham to beat West Brom @ 1.85 (Bet365) – 3 points
West Ham have been one of the top performing teams in the Premier League; and until their last 2 outings against strong Chelsea and Arsenal teams, they will be looking to get back to winning ways against a struggling West Brom team who just sacked their manager Alan Irvine.
Sam Allardyce will rely on the home crowd to give them the much needed backing to help them start of the new year in good fashion with a victory. Big Sam will want to grab victories to keep pressure on Southampton who are 2 points ahead of them in 4th while they sit in 6th at the half way point of the season. The Hammers had won six of their last seven matches in front of their own fans and with the great form being shown by Downing, Caroll, Sakho can help them secure a victory.
West Brom have struggled to find victories with 3 games in a row along with 7 losses in 9 games with 1 draw and 1 victory during those times. They had been struggling to score goals which has resulted in the poor performances. They sit in 16th just 1 point above the drop zone, and will be hoping that the signing of Pulis in the stands can help them regain some confidence. These 2 teams played in December with West Ham beating them by a score of 2-1; and its difficult to see how this poor side can stop the Hammers.
West Ham should take all 3 points on New Years Day; so I expect a solid victory against the Baggies.
