The NBA season rolls on and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
GS Warriors -6.5 to beat LA Lakers @ 1.67 (Bet365) – 3 points
The Golden State Warriors are super hot in the NBA, after dropping a game to Memphis are back on the winning track with 2 straight wins, and are going for their 3rd straight tonight against the Lakers.
After a lot of scoring led by the Splash Brothers (Curry and Thompson); they have great support from their cast of unselfish players like Iguadola, Barnes, Green, Speights, Ezeli, Bogut, Livingston, Lee and Barbosa who have all chipped in for this success. The Warriors high octane offense has seen them dominate to the NBA best record of 23-3 under 1st year coach Steve Kerr. Their team play has been something which is the reason for their strong performances as can be seen by their league high 26 assists per game, where the whole team are playing for each other and looking for the easy shot. Their defense has also helped them win games by a decent margin as seen from the 8.7 steals per game that they average for 5th highest in the NBA, 6.7 blocks per game to lead the NBA.
These 2 teams have already played twice this campaign so far, and the Warriors have come out trumps on both those games winning on average by 21 points in the 2 games so far. The Lakers have been struggling and have an extremely poor record with a win percentage of 30%. Kobe Bryant, Nick Young, Carlos Boozer and to some extent Jeremy Lin have been the only players who have been able to chip in. With Kobe ball hogging and jacking up 22-25 shots per game, it becomes extremely difficult for the team to be more effective in their offense. Actually they have a point differential when he is off the floor than when he is on it.
The Warriors should have too much in the tank for their divisional rival, and I expect them to cover the spread much like they did against the Kings last night.
NO Pelicans to beat IND Pacers @ 1.85 (MarathonBet) – 2.5 points
While the Pacers are struggling, the Pelicans are just holding on to a record over .500. There couldn’t have been a more reversal of fortunes between these 2 teams. An All-Star in Anthony Davis is playing in the beginning of the prime of his NBA career; while an All-Star in Paul George who is in his prime is out with injury for most likely the entire season.
This game will rely on how good the Pacers are at containing AD-23 tonight; who has been a monster in many games this season. He is averaging 25 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals per game this season, and looks a very viable contender for the MVP of the season unless LeBron, Harden, Westbrook, Gasol or Curry have something to say about it. Anthony Davis has been single handedly taking this team out of trouble along with his side kicks Tyreke Evans and Ryan Anderson combined with the rebounding of Asik and play-making of Holiday. This team is due for big things next season, but because of the level that AD-23 is playing, results and the playoffs are definitely expected from this team. They have beaten OKC Thunder in a close game last time around, and will take some confidence of winning on the road into the game against the struggling Pacers.
Indiana are in a bad state, but despite that they continue to do what they do best, which is play defense and keep teams to under 97 points per game which is the 3rd best in the NBA. They have improved recently to lose some games extremely close by 2 points to the Clippers and 3 points to the Nuggets, so will look to improve their play tonight. Miles, West and Hibbert have been largely responsible for their improvements on the offensive end in recent games, and Hibbert in particular will look to stop Davis tonight in what should be a great match up.
This game will be extremely tight and if the Pelicans will have to win, they will need to improve on the defensive end to keep the Pacers in check, while making the most of every possession that they have so that they are not bogged down by low scores in this game. I expect Pelicans to nick this game, and rightly the market price is tight between the 2 teams.
