The NBA season rolls on and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
DAL Mavericks -4.5 to beat DET Pistons @ 1.67 (MarathonBet) – 3 points
The Dallas Mavericks have played well last night against the New York Knicks and were able to secure a 20 points victory by dominating the first half leading by 10; and then slowly finishing it off in the 2nd with most of their starters not playing more than 25 minutes. Dirk Nowitzki, Parsons and Ellis all landed in double figures in a short stint on the floor while Chandler continued his All-star form with 14 rebounds in just 25 minutes. Dallas were extremely efficient scoring 51% while shooting 46% form down town, and a well rested team should be in good position to beat the struggling Pistons.
The Pistons while beating a struggling Sacramento Kings team, and then had a major upset against the Suns; were brought down back to reality with a loss against the Clippers by a huge margin of 22 points. they have struggled against good teams so far, and you definitely have to consider the Mavericks as a good team. Their offense is too one dimensional, going for scoring from the inside, while firing shots from the outside (with no genuine) outside shot takers. Detroit is the worst shooting in the NBA at 40%, and that clearly re-iterates their struggles.
The Mavericks should have too much for the Pistons today, and Rick Carlisle will want to have one against his former owners.
HOU Rockets to beat DEN Nuggets @ 1.85 (MarathonBet) – 3 points
The Houston Rockets have typically not fared well in Denver losing 4 straight; but the Nuggets are really playing some atrocious defense this campaign and have gone 3-7 in their last 10 games.
The Rockets despite missing majority of their key players, managed to keep pace maintaining a 18-5 record and completely led by James Harden who is now the top scorer in the NBA with 26.3 points per game. Dwight Howard has since returned along with Patrick Beverley and they showed the Nuggets how to play ball by beating them by 12 points at home. With the big man in and the priority of Houston on defense, you can see how well they have kept their opponents with low scores averaging 95.3 in scoring defense.
The Nuggets are struggling and even home court isn’t helping them much so far this campaign as they have lost quite a few games to good teams. Lots of injuries they have to contend with as McGee, Robinson and Gallinari are missing; who were their scoring bunch of the bench. Additionally some of their better players like Faried and Chandler have really struggled in their last outing with the match ups against Howard and Ariza. The Nuggets are the 3rd leakiest team in the NBA conceding 105 points per game, and with the strong Rockets team coming into town, it will be interesting to see who can stop them.
I expect Rockets to finally break their run of the 4 losses in Denver and take this match up tonight; and backing them in the ML is excellent price for tonight.
