The NBA season rolls on and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
ATL Hawks -2.5 to beat ORL Magic @ 1.80 (Pinnacle) – 2.5 points
The Atlanta Hawks just beat the Orlando Magic last night by the score of 87-81 at home, and will look to replicate that performance tonight against the same outfit to go 2-0 on the series between the sides.
The Hawks have been the surprise team of the campaign and have marched into 2nd spot in the East with a 16-6 record behind the Toronto Raptors who are 17-6. The Hawks also in the top 10 in the NBA in offense with 103 points scored per game and largely that performance has been due to their starters, all of whom are averaging in the double digits. Kyle Korver leads the NBA in 3-point field goals made as well as percentage at 56%, which is extremely good by any standards. Jeff Teague has had a stand out season 17 points and 7 assists while Millsap also supports him with 17 points and 8 boards.
The Magic are a young team who are developing and its god to see the spirit in which they play the game, never giving up and always fighting till the end. They would have performed better and had a few more wins other than the 9 they had so far if Vucevic was fit for more games, but he is their double double machine who is out of this game.
The fatigue level of both teams will be similar, but the Hawks lineup will have a better experience of how to deal with it. I am backing the Hawks to extend their winning streak to 10 games tonight.
POR TrailBlazers -3 to beat IND Pacers @ 1.70 (MarathonBet) – 2.5 points
The Portland TrailBlazers have had a mini-slump going 0-2 in their last 2 away games against Minnesota and Chicago Bulls and need to turn it around in the last game of their 5 game road trip. LaMarcus Aldridge had an off night against Minnesota but bounced back with a 35 point 9 rebound game against the Bulls last night and he was ably supported Lillard who also had 35 points to go along with 6 assists.
The team needed more of their players to contribute to the victory but more importantly the strong defense that the Bulls played is what led them to lose that game. They take on the Pacers who have been poor defensively and have a 7-16 record tonight including going on a 7 game losing streak, while losing to the Toronto Raptors last night despite being with 3 points. Aldridge will be the main man as he has averaged a strong 23.8 points and 9.5 rebounds against Indiana in his last 4 meetings with them.
The Pacers have struggled, injuries to their all-star Paul George, poor offensive production and lack of any stand out player to lead them in this charge towards some victories. They have a lot of average players like Hill, Copeland, West, Hibbert and Stuckey who have tried to chip in but averaging in the low double digit scores.
The Blazers know that this Pacers team is extremely vulnerable, and I am backing them to win as they cannot find a better opportunity to end their 2 game losing streak than tonight at Indiana.
