The NBA season rolls on and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
PHX Suns -7 to beat DET Pistons @ 1.65 (MarathonBet) – 2.5 points
The Phoenix Suns are on a 3 match losing streak and need to turn around things desperately in order to maintain a possibility of fighting for a playoff spot. While all their games were close losses (6 points or less); they managed to beat some good teams like Dallas, Golden State, Brooklyn, Denver and San Antonio.
The Suns beat the Pistons by 2 points away from home last time around, and will want to continue to maintain the losing streak that stretches to 13 games. The Suns have relied most of their season on the back court of Dragic and Bledsoe as well as the 2 Morris brothers and Gerald Green who have all averaged double digits. While Isaiah Thomas has been out injured, Hornacek is working with a small man rotation of 9 players. The Suns are the 5th highest scoring team in the NBA with 106 points owing to their fast speed offense, and also are the 3rd highest NBA 3 point scorers knocking down 10 per game.
The Pistons have continued to struggle with their offense and are losing with the 3rd highest differential in the NBA of -7 points. They have lost 11 out of their 13 games by a margin of 7 or more games, and have struggled to even pass 100 points other than in 2 occasions. Their offense is too one dimensional, going for scoring from the inside, while firing shots from the outside (with no genuine) outside shot takers. Detroit is the worst shoting in the NBA at 40%, and that clearly re-iterates their struggles.
The Suns should win this game with their offense and playing at home against a Detroit side who completely have lost the idea of what to do with their game.
OKC Thunder -6 to beat MIN Timberwolves @ 1.65 (MarathonBet) – 2.5 points
The OKC Thunder have started to get back into a rhythm now that their 2 All-Stars are back in the fold. Westbrook in particular has been outstanding this season with 25 points, 7 assists and 2 steals per game. He is more of the leader of this game until Durant finally gets back into song. His performance last night against the Cleveland Cavaliers along with Durant showed how they can get back to winning ways and back into the playoffs.
Thunder are now on a 4 match winning run beating some good teams like Cleveland and Milwaukee, while even without their 2 all-stars they kept a lot of games close with their opponents. They still have a deep team with likes of Ibaka, Morrow, Adams, Perkins, Jackson and Lamb who have given a lot of support to their 2 players and have got some good experience of playing when their big players haven’t been there.
The Timberwolves have struggled for most of the campaign and especially after having a lot of injuries to key players like Martin, Rubio, Williams and Pekovic. They have only managed 2 victories against 2 poor teams in Lakers and had a major upset against the Portland TrailBlazers 2 nights ago. They have not been able to put on enough players to help them in managing the scoring load; with a lot of players playing 36 minutes plus.
The Wolves have struggled in their match ups against the Thunder in the past, despite having Kevin Love in their team and have lost 17 of the last 20 outings and I expect the Thunder with their new found form and resurgence to dish out a win against the Wolves tonight.
