The NBA season rolls on and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
LA Clippers -5 to beat IND Pacers @ 1.70 (MarathonBet) – 3 points
The LA Clippers have an outstanding team built by Doc Rivers has built up this team with one of the deepest benches. Clippers are extremely efficient offensively, looking for more opportunity on high percentage looks which has seen them lead the NBA highest field goal percentage at 48.5%. The Clippers are strong being no.3 in the number of points scored at 107 points. It’s no surprise when you have quality players like Jordan, Griffin, Barnes, Paul and Redick in your starting lineup followed by Crawford, Hawes, Davis, Farmar to help.
The Clippers are on an 8 game winning streak and in addition to their high scoring percentage; Paul, Crawford and Redick are averaging over 40% from 3 point territory that makes them more difficult to guard.
While Pacers have always been known as a defensive team; they have failed to score much averaging less than 94 points per games (bottom 4 in the NBA). The Pacers have relied a lot of their scoring on Stuckey and West; and if they have a bad night the others have failed to chip in. Last time around against the Atlanta Hawks; Stuckey and Miles had 15 pints; but the rest had been absolutely disastrous. The Pacers have now lost 5 straight games, and will need to make a major trade to ignite their offense especially since George is out and Stephenson gone.
The Clippers were always touted to be among the top teams in the Western Conference, and have a 75% win record for the season and have won 5 straight games against the East by around 20 points; and I expect them to comfortably win this one tonight also.
CHA Bobcats v BOS Celtics – Green Over 18.5 points @ 1.83 (Bet365) – 3 points
The Charlotte Bobcats have been struggling recently, but managed to break a losing streak against the New York Knicks. That said, despite facing a losing team today, the Boston Celtics have been on cracking form in their recent games winning 4 of 5, including beating Washington at home, and then losing by just 1 point in OT against them.
Instrumental for Boston has been Jeff Green (not surprised to say he is on my fantasy team). He has been the most recognisable star for the Celtics after Rajon Rondo; but he is the leading scorer for the team this campaign with 19.8 points per game. Jeff has been particularly hot in the last 5 games averaging 25.8 ppg while scoring at 50%, showing you that they he is making the most of every possession that he has. Jeff has also been lethal from downtown hitting 45% of his three’s attempted scoring at least 2 threes per game out of 4 attempted.
Green is also a heavy dunker and great on the fast break, which means he gets to the hoop a lot, and often gets fouled attempting around 5 free throws per game this season, knocking down 4. If 10 points are coming from threes and free throws; we only need 5 field goals from Jeff Green through out the rest of teh game.
Charlotte are poor defensively giving up 102 points per game, and won 1 of their last 10 games. With Kidd-Gilchrist out, Henderson or Babbit has been starting at Small Forward where Green is matched up against. Some small forward players in the league have had some big nights against the Bobcats like Anthony (32 points), Matthews (28 points), Deng (26 points), Harris (18 points), Parsons (17 points) to name a few.
I expect Green to continue on his merry way and ensure that he scores 19 points plus in this game tonight.
