The NBA season rolls on and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
LA Clippers v ORL Magic – Blake Griffin Over 22.5 points @ 1.85 (888Sport) – 2.5 points
LA Clippers v ORL Magic – Over 54.5 points @ 1.83 (Bet365) – 3 points (#INPLAYMAGIC)
Blake Griffin has been simply outstanding for the LA Clippers leading them in the scoring department, and generally leads the team out by scoring early on itself through pick and rolls and alleys in the 1st half to help this team out to an early lead.
Griffin has been on fire for the season averaging 22.6 points per game so far, however he has stepped up his game averaging 26 points per game over the last 3 games against Utah, Minnesota and Houston so far this campaign. Last time around against the Orlando Magic he scored 20 points but on poor shooting going 8 for 18 from the field. Griffin has improved his play going to 52% over the course of the season. What is helping Blake also is his ability to get to the free throw line around 5 times a night, knocking around 88% in the last 5 games.
Tonight Griffin takes on Channing Frye who has not been the best nor strongest defender over the course of his career, which should mean that a lot of plays are created for him early on. Expect Blake to net his score tonight against a Magic team who will also be tired after a tight game against the Warriors last night.
MEM Grizzlies -2.5 to beat HOU Rockets @ 1.68 (MarathonBet) – 3 points
The Memphis Grizzlies have been tearing it up in the NBA going on a 5 game winning streak and going 15-2 for the season so far. Most of their performances this campaign has come from the defensive end, which has helped them perform well on the offensive end through fast breaks as well as ability to get back a lot of offensive rebounds for 2nd chance opportunities.
The Grizzlies have kept opponents to under 92.4 points per game; the best defense in the NBA. They are now on a 5 game winning streak beating some good teams like Lakers, Clippers, Boston, Portland and Sacramento. Grizzlies have relied a lot of their performances on from a talented group of individuals led by Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph, Courtney Lee, Tony Allen and Mike Conley. Gasol in particular has been in ripe form leading from the front averaging 23 points per game in his last 4 outings, and looking to repeat similar performances tonight.
The Rockets had been right up there with the Grizzlies for a good opening season record going 7-2 early on, but a spate of injuries to key players like Howard, Beverley and Jones as well as back ups in Canaan, definitely making the task difficult for them and especially James Harden; who has to shoulder most of the responsibility. Trevor Ariza has also been forced to put up ill-advised shot in the scoring efforts and brought down his shooting average to 32% over the last 9 games.
The Grizzlies should be able to show up with some top defense and be able to contain the Rockets tonight even at their home floor and steal this victory tonight.
