The NBA season rolls on and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
POR Trailblazers -2 to beat DEN Nuggets @ 1.80 (MarathonBet) – 3 points
The Portland Trail Blazers have beaten the Denver Nuggets on the 2 ocassions that they have played so far this campaign beating them by 16 and 17 points on those games; and will feel confident of beating the Nuggets once more tonight especially after they struggled last night against a poor Utah Jazz team.
The Blazers are on fire with 6 straight wins against the Denver Nuggets since last year; and will be aiming to continue that run to make it 7 straight against one of the worst defensive teams in the league. While the Blazers are scoring over 104 points, they have scored 123 points on average against the Nuggets this season. Aldridge, Lilliard, Matthews, Batum and Lopez are a pretty formidable front lineup with all except Batum averaging in the double digits as well. The bench of the Blazers is one of the stronger ones in the NBA especially led with Kaman, Robinson and Blake.
The Nuggets had been struggling earlier on in the season have turned around their defense slightly. Despite giving up high points, they manage to beat Lakers, Bulls, Jazz and Phoenix in the last few games. They have been primarily led by Lawson, Afflalo and Chandler in the scoring department; but have still shown to be lazy on the defensive end. Last night they blew up a 19-point lead at half time, and almost lost the game against a poor Utah Jazz away from home.
Portland has won 10 of 11 so far, and I expect them to continue this run against a poorer Denver team, who had to play away from home last night with Lawson, Afflalo and Chandler playing a lot of minutes.
CLE Cavaliers v MIL Bucks – LeBron James Over 25.5 points @ 1.90 (MarathonBet) – 2 points
LeBron James will be looking to continue leading this team to success as they have finally found a bit of groove on themselves, winning 3 straight games against Indiana, Washington and Orlando at home. James has been key to the success of Cleveland as he has averaged 30 points per game in their wings compared to their 19 points per game when they lose.
James’ struggles this year has been from the 3 point line, where he is knocking down only 1 three per game, and will need to improve that in order to push up his scoring lines. He has continued to drive to the basket, which we know is one of his good values due to the size and strength he possesses. As a result he has been attempting around 8 free throws per game, knocking down at least 6.
James had 29 points (7-14 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 14-17 FT) in 36 minutes during last weeks’ victor against a tough Wizards team, and will be aiming for a similar line against the Milwaukee Bucks especially with young Jabari Parker defending him tonight.
