Phoenix Suns to beat Detroit Pistons @ 1.83 (MarathonBet) – 2.5 points
The Phoenix Suns are looking to pile on more misery against a struggling Pistons side who are 3-8 so far this game with highlights of their season include an embarrassing losses to Orlando Magic, Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves who have considerably less talent than this Detroit team.
The Pistons are a very front court loaded team with Drummond, Monroe and Smith in there; which leaves them a bit inflexible when you look at their scoring. They are poor in the transition game as a result of that and have to rely a lot on their ability to crash the glass to make up for second chance points of the offensive boards. Detroit are among the bottom 6 teams in point differential with a -5 on average. They also average only 93 points per game, which places them in the bottom 5 of teams on the scoring end which has truly been their issue. Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith often handle the ball, but commit over 5 turnovers per game between them adding up to around 12 for the Pistons, who rank in the top 7 in that category. Stan van Gundy used to be known as a coach who was focussed on defense as well as making the most of every possession during his time in Orlando and Miami; but he hasn’t had the best with this lot unless he make some major moves to trade out some players.
The Phoenix Suns under Hornacek have been extremely entertaining for all to watch ranking 6th in the scoring charts at around 105 points per game. Their game is focussed on their backcourt players in Dragic, Thomas and Bledsoe who are scoring 45 points of the Suns nightly scoring among them. They have regularly depended on the 3 ball to give them point production and rank 7th with 9 threes per game. Phoenix shouldn’t have too many problems on the defensive end as the Pistons are really struggling to get their offensive game together. The Suns will also be happy that some of their big men, who are not stars, have started contributing well on the offensive end with the Morris brothers averaging 25 points between them and former no.5 pick in the Draft Alex Len also improving on his offensive production averaging 18 in his last 2 outings.
The game comes to Suns good offense v Pistons poor offense; and I expect the Suns to knick this one
