The NBA season rolls on and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
HOU Rockets -4.5 to beat MIN Timberwolves @ 1.68 (MarathonBet) – 3 points
James Harden Over 26 points @ 1.85 (888Sport) – 2 points
Houston are coming back after a tough loss to Golden State after just having James Harden and Trevor Ariza as their only 2 starters available after Jones, Beverley and Howard went down with injuries and flu. Howard is back for tonight’s game which will give additional confidence to the team especially taking a strong front court of Pekovic and Wiggins. Houston will be looking to continue their good form after going 6-1 and also after having a good 4 day rest which will have them extremely fresh to take on the Wolves tonight away from home.
The Wolves have struggled without Rubio, as they do not have a solid playmaker to create their opportunities. Since he went down, they have lost 2 straight by 10 points; but before that they were playing games extremely close. Kevin Martin has been their leading scorer netting over 20 points per game and he has been ably supported by Pekovic and Wiggins averaging 15 points per game. The Timberwolves bench has been a bit short with players struggling to put up competitive numbers.
Rockets have the depth and quality and should see out this one covering the handicap.
WAS Wizards -4 to beat DET Pistons @ 1.70 (MarathonBet) – 2.5 points
Washington Wizards have played really good this season going 5-2 at the start so far, and another win would apparently have them get their best start in the last 40 years. The Wizards will be extremely confident taking on this game against a struggling Pistons team who are 0-3 away while the Wizards are strong going 2-0 at home.
Washington will rely on the efforts of their strong team including the likes of Wall, Temple, Pierce, Nene and Gortat. All of them have started off the season in fantastic form averaging double digits per game. The return of Nene after missing the few games has really turned it around for them going 4-1 in their last 5 games. They have a solid bench that provide all options in rebounding with Humphries, Seraphin and Gooden while the backcourt includes Otto Porter, Andre Miller and Rasual Butler. Washington are really a good team that should be looking to challenge Miami for the SouthEast division title.
Detroit Pistons have hired a new coach in an experienced Stan Van Gundy; but the philosophy of the Pistons will continue unless they make some major moves to change their team. They have beaten some average teams so far but struggled against better teams such as Chicago and Denver and now face a good test like Washington. Andre Drummond has been the only positive influence in this team and van Gundy is struggling to put up offense points averaging only 91 points per game, which is among the lower teams in the league.
Wizards should be too strong at home for the Pistons, and I think they should cover the spread, considering Pistons have yet to cover a single one so far this campaign.
