The NBA season rolls on and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.
ORL Magic -1.5 to beat PHI 76ers @ 1.80 (MarathonBet) – 3 points
The Orlando Magic take on the PHI 76ers with both teams going 0-4 so far this campaign with both looking for a victory to win.
The Orlando Magic have definitely been promising this season coming within 8 points of Chicago last night, despite being very close and also coming within 7 points of Washington Wizards. They are an extremely good young core of people who will need to lose to win, but should be able to beat teams like Philadelphia on their night. They got a double double machine in Vucevic (who is my center in my NBA fantasy team) along with hot shooters in Harris and Fournier to go along to score form the outside. They have also picked up some smart veterans to help instigate the winning and work ethic culture through Channing Frye, Ben Gordon and Luke Ridnour. They have played increasingly well game after a game, and I really believe it will be a matter of 2 years where they will be contending with the best in the East as long as they snap up an all star.
The 76ers have been working hard, but lost all their games by double digits so far. The team owners also know that the team has to be built through draft picks and young players, and that is exactly what their strategy has been throughout the past few years. Tony Wroten has been their only major scorer in their team, but despite having some decent talent, no one has yet to step up with some credible performances. The 76ers are the favorites to be the worst team this campaign; and it looks like it could happen tonight as well.
Expecting the Magic to easily cover this spread tonight.
MIA Heat +4 to beat CHA Bobcats @ 1.67 (MarathonBet) – 3 points
The Miami Heat played last night in a tough game against the Houston Rockets but the good thing is most of their top players played less than 30 minutes in Bosh, Wade and Deng. Coach Spolestra saw the inevitable early in the 4th after giving the team a chance to turn it around, he just pulled them back to save them for what should be a better chance of a win.
The Miami Heat are underdogs purely because they go after a tough loss into an away game, and if they were at home, they would be back to being favorites. Chris Bosh has been in great form, and despite the team struggling, he still found his way to net 21 points and had great help from Wade who scored 19. The team just got out-rebounded since they are a smaller team by the likes of Howard and Jones, but it should be an easier assignment against Al Jefferson and Marvin Williams.
The Bobcats played really bad last night and will feel heart broken of having another chance but having another close loss after that. They have lost their last 3 games by 9,3,2 so far and will be confident to try and get the home crowd behind them to push on. The Bobcats are struggling in having some consistent scoring with only Walker and Jefferson contributing majorly to the scoring. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist looks extremely doubtful with a rib injury and after yesterday night’s loss, they might struggle if he doesn’t add to their fire.
Expecting Miami to actually win, but for an insurance policy, you can get them at +4 for some good cash.
MEM Grizzlies +3.5 to beat PHX Suns @ 1.70 (888Sport) – 3 points
The Memphis Grizzlies have had a surprisingly superb start to the NBA season going 4-0 and holding teams down to a low of 85 ppg which has been instrumental in their success so far this campaign. They have been absolutely steller on their efforts holding their opponents to 40% shooting on the field goals which has helped them put more pressure on opponents especially when their shots are not falling.
Grizzlies have got all round performances from their entire team including Gasol, Randolph, Lee and Conley; all of whom are averaging double digits while leading in rebounds and assists for the team. Randolph averaging 12.3 boards is the 4th highest in the NBA while Tony Allen with 3 steals is 3rd in the NBA in that department (Loving the fact both are in my NBA fantasy team). Overall they have a strong bench team as well with the likes of Vince Carter, Pondexter, Udrih & Prince who can all contribute to help the starters in winning.
The Suns have been such a hi-tempo team and despite looking comfortable for many periods of the game last night against the Lakers, their poor defensive effort made the Lakers come to within 3 points at one stage before finally sealing the win late on. Phoenix relies for around 50% of their points to come from the paint (ranking 5th in the NBA) and that will definitely be quite tough with the better defenders of Memphis around. Bledsoe has struggled in some games, as well as Thomas and Dragic and the three of them are not working so well unless its against weaker defensive teams. I am sure before the season ends, one of these 3 will be traded for a decent small forward or power forward as that is what the Suns need, but for now thy will struggle against such teams.
Memphis have beaten Phoenix 3 times last year, have won 3 straight away at Phoenix and are coming back tonight after one days rest. The Grizzlies should take it straight up, but I will take the handicap for insurance.
