The NBA season rolls on and we go straight in early on this time with a pick in order to try and take advantage of some poor lines early on.

NBA Basketball
LA Clippers -9.5 to beat LA Lakers @ 1.67 (MarathonBet) – 2.5 points

The Clippers played a tough game last night against the Thunder and that should stand them in good stead as they play against their cross town rivals in Lakers in this game.

The Clippers are now the most dominant team in LA, and will look to continue that trend as they play this one against a struggling Lakers who have gone 0-2 so far this campaign losing by an average of 19 points in the 2 games against rivals from their own conference in Houston and Phoenix. Clippers will rely a lot on Chris Paul and Blake Griffin who are their 2 all stars but the superb supporting cast of Jordan, Barnes, Redick, Hawes, Farmar and Jamal Crawford.

The Lakers have soo many injuries already lost Randle and Nash for the season, and a aging Kobe Bryant being the one man gang that he has been for a number of years. There isn’t really much help and support for the Lakers aside from Carlos Boozer and Jeremy Lin, who have also started out this season badly.

I expect Clippers to dish our another thrashing tonight against the hapless Lakers.

SA Spurs to beat PHX Suns @ 1.94 (MarathonBet) – 2 points

The defending champions San Antonio Spurs take on the Phoenix Suns in a battle of 2 high scoring teams. The Spurs however have the added advantage of being a top defensive team in the NBA. Tonight they welcome back the Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard who has cleared an eye infection, and will be raring to go and show the NBA that he was worthy of being the MVP.

What also helps the Spurs is that the players now have some outstanding NBA finals experience and a supporting cast that really play as a TEAM and for EACH OTHER. The likes of the Big 3 (Duncan, Parker, Ginobili) in addition to Diaw, Splitter, Bonner, Green, Joseph, Bellenelli among the talent that coach Popovich has at his disposal. Spurs found it hard in the first game against the Dallas Mavericks, but eventually found a way to get the victory. The benefit of having such tough opening games is its should set the Spurs up for a good start as they aim for a 17th consecutive 50+ win season.

The Suns have managed to re-sign Bledsoe who was their most important off-season piece of business. While they lost Channing Frye they managed to secure a quick footed and top bench producer in Isiaah Thomas who scored 23 in the opening game. The main strategy of the Suns is the quick transition offense as well as the shooting from downtown. Both of those might not come into full fruition tonight as the Spurs are extremely good in defending especially on the perimeter. If the Suns have to win a lot of importance will be on how well their inside men Morris brothers and Plumlee will be effective. The 3 of them will really need to step up on their defense as well as increase their offensive production as Spurs are smaller now with the injuries to Splitter and Bonner not being the best inside defender.

This is going to be an extremely tight game as it was opening night for the Spurs; but I think their defense will probably be what helps them make it through this game.
